How to install a power supply

WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules Unplug all electronic cords connected to the computer. At no time during the installation should any cords be connected to the computer. Remove the screws holding the computer cover case, and remove the cover case. Locate the computer power supply box, which looks like a large box out of which a bundle of wires run and connects to the power cord jack on the outside of the computer case. Unplug the power cables from the internal devices connected to it. Be careful not to damage any of the sensitive control boards or devices inside the computer, and be certain to remember--write it down if you need to--what devices will need reconnecting to the new power supply when you finish the installation. Unscrew the power supply from the inside of the computer case and remove it. Check the original power supply's red voltage switch for the correct setting. It should read 120 or 240 if you live within the United States. Confirm this setting as the correct voltage setting for your power outlets. Make sure your new power supply gets set to the correct voltage setting before you install it. If it cannot be set to the correct voltage, do not proceed with the installation or you may damage your computer. Return the new power supply and buy one that is compatible with the voltage requirements. Install the new power supply, reattach the screws that will hold it in the proper place inside the computer. Reattach the power cables that come from the new power supply to the devices that were connected to the old power supply. Make sure all of these connections are firmly in place before you turn the computer back on. Reattach the computer power cables and all the cords connected to the computer during normal operation, but do not close the computer case yet. Keep your hands clear of the inside of the computer case as you attach power cords and peripheral devices. Turn the computer on and observe the performance of the computer without touching anything inside. Do all the computer fans function normally? Does the computer operate as well as or better than before? If you feel that the computer behaves normally and you do not encounter any problems, turn the computer off, remove all the power cords and peripheral cables once more, and close the computer case. Then reattach the power cords and peripheral cables and begin using the computer. Check for errors if you encountered any problems starting the computer or if it would not start at all, unplug all the power cords and computer cables connected to the computer and look inside. Make sure that you connected all the correct power cables inside the computer securely and did not miss any. If you have confirmed this and the computer still doesn't start or operate normally, call your computer manufacturer or a professional computer repair shop for assistance completing the installation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvClS_M-09o&feature=watch_response_rev watch video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0udZ0Ky4Pk Hope this helps.

Cannot power on only led light (num lock, scroll lock, cap lock) flashing Model: S6520

Welcome to fixya, This could be a number of issues.

It could be your ram chips need to be replaced, it could be your battery.

Try this to narrow it down.

Remove the power cord, and the battery.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds solid.

Then, do not put the battery back in, just the power cord.

Try to start the computer, if it starts, your battery is failing.

If it does not start, leave the battery out, remove the power cord.

Turn the laptop upside down and remove and reinsert the ram chips.

Then, plug the power cord back in and try and start it again.

If it starts, your ram chips may be failing and you should think about replacing them.

My HP Pavilion M90 monitor won't turn on. Every time I press the on button I hear a clicking sound from the back of the monitor. It sounds like it's trying to power up but it doesn't do anything. Is there...

Hello

Do a hard reset on the laptop by removing all cords and connections from the computer, including the power cord. Turn the computer over and slide the tab next to the battery, then lift the battery out of its compartment.

Eject any SD cards currently inserted in the SD card slot by pressing on them, then remove them from the slot completely. Hold the computer's "Power" button down for at least 15 seconds, then plug the power cord into the computer and turn it on.

Watch to see if the LED lights near the "Caps Lock" and "Num Lock" illuminate. If the lights do not turn on and the computer's screen remains blank, inspect the power cord and AC adapter for damage and replace them if necessary.

Leave the power cord plugged into the computer and snap the battery back into its slot. Allow the computer to sit for at least 30 minutes, then unplug the power cord and press the "Power" button again to see if the computer will turn on.

Plug the power cord back into the computer and try to turn it on again. If the computer turns on, replace the battery with a new one. If the computer still does not turn on, take the computer to a repair shop.

My computer won't turn on or charge.

You need to diagnose the problem.
>First try to take the battery out of the computer and just use the charger to make computer run.
>If it turns on it means that the battery is what's causing the problem.
>But, if computer cannot run using the charger/AC Adapter then it means that we have a problem with the charger.
By doing this diagnostics you know which part to replace.

My inspiron 1000 laptop from dell won't turn on. The adapter cord is not getting hot. I was defragging the computer when it shut off. Is this the adapter cord?

Hello there:
ok the first thing that i would suggest is to remove the battery and unplug the power cord from the computer
now check the area that the battery connects to and get a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol and clean the contact areas where the battery connects to the computer at really good and let dry
next if the computer has a reset hole on the back of it use a toothpick or somthing small and press in on the reset for 2 min and than release than press and hold in on the computers power on button for one minute and release now plug in only the power cord and turn on the computer and it should now start
than after it does put the battery in and let charge for a min of 30 min
than you should be ok from there ok
Please feel free to post a comment to me if you still have problems ok
Hope all of this is very helpful for you
Best regards Michael

My screen on my dell inspiron 1520 has gone black

You've lost your desktop display.
The first thing I would do is to start the computer in safe mode. Once there, do a system restore back to the time that it worked.
I would also, just to be safe, do your disk management tasks like checking your hard drive for errors and running defrag.

How to open the evo 500 compact black box

Hi maybi,

The evo's have two senarios that you may be facing.

First is Smark Cover locking. If you enable the Smart Cover Lock and cannot enter your password to disable the lock, you will need a Smart Cover FailSafe Key to open the computer cover.
You will need the key in any of the following circumstances:
Power outage
Startup failure
PC component (for example, processor or power supply) failure
Forgotten password,

If you don't have the Key, To obtain a FailSafe Key:
Contact an HP reseller or service provider.
Refer to the HP's Web site (www.HP.com) for ordering
information.
Call the appropriate number listed in the warranty.
To open the computer cover:
1. Turn off the computer and any external devices.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the power outlet, and disconnect
any external devices.
3. Using the Smart Cover FailSafe Key, remove the two
tamper-proof screws that secure the Smart Cover Lock to the
chassis.
4. Remove the Smart Cover Lock.
To reattach the Smart Cover Lock, secure the lock in place with the
tamper-proof screws

Or the non- Smart Cover Case:

1. åWARNING: Before removing the computer cover, ensure that the
computer is turned off and that the power cord is disconnected from the
electrical outlet.
2. Turn off the computer and any external devices.
3. Disconnect the power cord from the power outlet, and disconnect
any external devices.
4. Press in the button on each side of the front bezel to release the
quick release cover latches.
5. As you slide the computer cover forward, release the buttons and
allow them to return to the original position, then lift the cover up
and off the unit.
✎ To replace the cover, reverse this procedure.

If all software tests check normal but the hdd locks up then you may have gotten a bad hdd. Contact the warranty department of the hdd manufacturer to arrange an RMA and replacement. They should provide you a new drive free and will give you instructions on what to do with the bad drive. Hope this helps.

After computer locks up, reboot is not successful because it hangs again

It seems to me your system did not receive enough power from your power supply unit (PSU). Get a "real power type PSU". It should solve your problem.
