Question about ViewSonic VA1912wb Monitor

Monitor flickers unless brightness is at 100%

Starting a few days ago, I noticed that my monitor was flickering when dark colors were displayed. I reseated the HDMI and power cables, but the only solution I found was to increase the brightness of the monitor to 100%. This is very hard on the eyes (I'm used to about 70%). Does anyone have other suggestions? The monitor was purchased in 2005, but I wouldn't expect it to fail already.

I also had flickering (except at full brightness) even after changing the capacitors. Finally treated the various connectors with silicone oil, and all was fixed.

I just finished repairing 2 of these monitors. There are 4 capacitors (CapXon brand, cheap) on the backlight power supply board that are going bad and are probably bulging and leaking already. This monitor isn't terribly hard to get apart, and somebody with basic soldering skills can do the repair in a few hours for around $5 in parts from DigiKey.

I used replacement capacitors from DigiKey (Panasonic FM brand/model). I replaced ALL capacitors on the power supply board because it is clear the ViewSonic uses bottom barrel parts.

If you don't repair the problem, at some point in the future the monitors won't power up at all unless you power cycle for 20 minutes, then eventually, not at all.

Afraid that doesn't solve the problem; I recently got this problem as well - flickering occurs when dark colors are present. Sometimes I don't get the flickering at all after start up, other times such as now I do.

I've also found that changing the refresh rate depends greatly on what resolution you are running. only 1024x768 can achieve a higher refresh rate. Anything higher than that resolution and it seems, at least for this monitor, you can only operate at 60 Hertz

Go to your Windows display settings and hit the Advance button and try changing the refresh rate on the monitor.

See if that helps.

IH252 inc monitor bottom half darker than top.

Thin screen LCD monitor brightness controls operate several fluorescent lamps called "backlights" that are positioned behind the LCD display. Typically, they're located around the edges of the screen - sometimes just at the top and bottom, and other times at the left and right edges and others still at all 4 edges.

Fluorescent "backlight" lamp, inverter & connection wiring.

The lamps are miniature versions of those sold in stores. They require a support circuitry called an inverter that convert & boosts the level of DC to AC voltage performing the functions of a ballast in a traditional fluorescent fixture.

The reason a part of your screen remains dark is because one or more of the components in the picture above has failed and will not allow the lamp to shine. Replacement lamps and inverters aren't expensive - but requires patience and the ability to disassemble / assemble the monitor (which is usually harder to do than it appears) and solder. They are available various lengths and color temperatures (you must get a lamp that is identical or it will be noticed). If this is a new monitor - you ought to return it for replacement. If used, consider the cost of purchasing a replacement (new or used) vs. repair.

I hope this helps & good luck!

A few months ago my LG Flatron L1900R monitor started flickering when I boot up my computer. It has become worse, to the point where it now flickers constantly.

From the information desribed, this means that your CRT monitor is going dead. Unfortuntly, there is no way to stop the flickering unless the monitor was replaced. I hope this has helped

Screen slightly flickers

Probably the inverter board of your monitor has been exhausted. The inverter is the part that enables the monitor to glow, making a little fluorescent gas lamp insithe the LCD bright strong enough to illuminate all the panel. When this circuit has some disfunction the lamp could oscilate, ficker and finally die making the panel dark and you couldn read what's on the screen.

The inverter has a lifetime, and the lamp too, check the lamp lifetime of your monitor and the inverter too.

But this could only be performed to a qualified person, due the high probability of electric shock if you try to make yoursel the repair.

Good luck

Well, this problem is going to only get worse. You can probably send it back to the manufacturer if you still have a warantee, but if you can't just buy a new monitor.
