Question about Honda 6370C - Parallel Power Kit For EU3000i
My Honda is only a few years old, and has 15 hours of only test use once per month. Gas and oil changed once per year and sta-bil added. I went to start it with the electric start and heard a loud noise as if the starter motor is seizing up. Use of the pull start works ok. It runs good but I am noticing surging speed when running. Any suggestions to what may be the problems on a generator that is like new and has never evan been used under load with only 15 hours of test use?
I'd say your battery in the generator is going bad or bad. They are very small and do not hold a charge for very long. The noise you heard was probably the starter shaft hitting the flywheel cogs. I doubt any harm was done as long as you did not repeatedly try to start it with the key. Why Honda put a battery in these is because they are intended for use in a campground setting, where they would be used on a daily basis and the battery would constantly charged. Whereas people like us buy them for emergencies only, they sit for long periods, and the battery goes flat, and the fuel clogs the carb and we get the surging issue. That's my 2 cents. When I brought mine home new, I Sta-bil'd the heck out of the gasoline, this past winter, on start-up, the unit surges. Of course the battery was flat.

The Honda EU 3000 is supposed to be able to handle steady use without any problem, however, this is not always the case as you have discovered.
The unit will usually key start as long as you pull the choke out. As you mention, it will always start with the pull cord. On mine, shortly after the battery started giving trouble and I used the pull cord, it snapped. When I took it apart to fix it, I discovered that Honda had kindly left a nice razor sharp metal edge right where the pull cord goes through. The dealer wants something like $200 to fix this, and while it is a long job - something like 2 hours - it isn't difficult. I filed down the offending metal and it's OK now.
The worst problem with these things is water that gets into the carb. Some of it may be introduced vie the gasoline, but some is from condensation, which there is little you can do about.
You need to take the carb off and clean it, plus replace the fuel filter every time - and the spark plug while you're at it. At some point you might find that the bottom of the float bowl has actually rusted. Put a new one in.
We use ours every day as the backup for our solar system. In the winter, there's not much sun, so the genny is used daily. In the summer it may sit for several months untouched, but still starts OK most of the time.

Generator was running, ran out of fuel now wont start. Getting fuel but doesnt have any spark that i can see. If you hold the plug and touch the unit, can feel a mild shock.

The problem with the surging is from the gas line being restricted from the old gas. I fixed mine by putting gumout in the tank with fresh gas. You have to then play with the fuel cutoff valve as that is where it usually gums up. You get it started and run it and then turn the valve off and let it die. After several times, the generator will run fine without it surging on the eco-throttle.
My EU3000is is eight years old and sits outside and is still fine. The only problem I had lately is the battery is dying and the pull cord snapped when I tried starting it manually.

On this unit, the pullcord and the starter uses the same flywheel engagement mechanism. So, the starter to flywheel cogs must still be intact. The starter pinion gear might be the problem
I had to replace the drive mech when it exploded. They updated the drive and I couldn't get the part I needed. The new drive mech assembly was $300! I found a used one.
I have NEVER been able to get my unit to start with the starter. It always start one the first easy pull! It turned over like a champ, but no start......go figure...
I recently bought a new replacement eu3000i, as the old one just bit the shed. It siezed up. I haven't taken it apart yet to know for sure, but it went clacka-ckacka-WONK!, and the pull cord won't pull.
BTW, I love those gensets!

Clean the contacts of the battery first with contact cleaner or simple soda, check the carbons of the start motor, air filter and fuel filter, fuel filter might be stuck.. u might change it, use a carb cleaner to clean or unclock the carburator.. try all this hints first
