SOURCE: How to time loading arm cogs on VCR?

Most Panasonic VCR use a mechanisms with a letter. For example the NV-HS900 uses a K Deck. What you need to do is type the model number into google and search for which deck it uses. Then with luck you might also find the instructions for setting the deck up correctly. I got the K-Deck one free.

This happens when he strings are worn out or broken. It will not hurt to replace the strings of the VCR after some while.

SOURCE: Panasonic NV HD620 Error F06

You appear to have a model that uses the K Deck Chassis.
F06 in that case stands for: "Mechanism locks after unload". The cause being either the loading motor or the carriage alignment.

SOURCE: Panasonic VCR NV-HD642 - F04 Error

You sound like you have a K Deck Model. If this is the case F04 means that the mechanism locks during unloading.
The apparent cause of this is the Load Motor timing.

SOURCE: panasonic NV-SD236B VCR Error code

You appear to have a model that uses the K-Deck Chassis. If you enter "Panasonic K-Deck Chassis" into google you will find loads of service information on it.
However back to your problem F06 means the mechanism is locking up after unloading. The cause of which could be either the Load Motor or a problem with the Carriage (where the tape goes) and it's alignment.

Mine did that, and when I opened it I found that a small drive belt (visible from the bottom with the cover removed) had deteriorated into goo. This unit had been in storage a while and the rubber just deteriorated, I guess. The trouble is that now I cant tell what size it is, or what length. I think this belt drives the mechanism that loads the tape in and out, and the rest of the mechanism is triggered by the tape cassette moving into position. Since it cant get loaded properly, the rest of the machine doesnt work right, either.

This may be caused by the mode switch.
By the way it uses a K-Deck Mechanism.

Not sure on the removal, but if you replace the mode switch the machine might come back to life.

Transport erratic - machine cuts out on PLAY/REW/REC

A machine reset (unplugging- (x1 wk)) temporarily seemed to fix; some probls returned after 24 hrs.

Technician series text suggest probl may be Tape Load reel (gears, worn belts), tape slack sensor,
mode switch, etc. In other words, machine needs overhaul due to lack of maintenance. [ But where to get necess parts???!! ]

Audio & picture still perform well. Suspect snow dropouts due to tape age (at least late 1980s) & oxides.

Panasonic NV-HS1000 VCR problem

Before you try anything too elaborate, change all of the belts. There are a number of safety features built into this unit to prevent the tape from getting damaged. If one of the reel tables is not turning when it should, the unit will shutdown. There are a number of similar checks made continuously as the machine runs. If you have no experience with these units, bing it in for service. The parts should not be more than $5-$25 total. Add in the local labor charge for the total repair bill. Basically this unit should be cleaned and the alignment checked after the belts have been changed.

VCR eats tape when rewinding

A couple of possibilities: 1. Braking problems: When VCR goes from FFWD, REW, Play to stop, there are a pair of "brake pads" engaged to stop the reels, and prevent tape spillage out into the machine. These pads, often rubber like, are on levers which contact one side of each reel. If you take the cover off the VCR, and look down where the tape is loaded, you will like see these brake assemblies. If the rubber pad is missing, or lever pivot points gummied up, then this is your issue. 2. Take up reel isn't being engaged to take up the tape on tape eject. When a tape is loaded into the machine, tape is pulled from the cartridge and threaded into play ready position. When eject mode is engaged, the tape must be pulled back into the cartridge, or you will have tape hanging out the front end of the cartridge, and may get caught on the VCR internals, or at least be mangled by the cartridge door. The often issue here is likely the idler assembly pivot point is sticky. This idler pivots, moving from the take-up reel (right reel) to the supply reel reel (left one), depending on what mode is selected. FFWD & play to the right, left for REW. If this idler is gummed up at it's pivot point, movement will be sluggish at best, and might not be engaging the right reel quickly enough to pull tape in before tape eject. This idler is sitting right between the reels down where the tape sits. A little light oil on the pivot point may be enough to loosen it up. Otherwise it might need to be removed and the old grease removed, and a drop or two of light oil applied.

Tape Ejects Immediately

There are normally 2 causes. One is some obstruction in the tape path. Please open the cover of the VCR and shake and see for foriegn objects. Nothing??? Then there is one more possibility - Belts are loose.. Check the Tape Loading motor belt.Is it slack? This can happen over time.Change the belt.
