one of the welds on your inner stainless steal tub may have broke causing the drop of your tub. The tub has a warranty on it but the labor to put it in is around 3hrs give or take any hour.

With the machine off, push upward on the inner drum and release. If the clunking sound occurs and the drum seems somewhat loose, likely the front main bearing for the drum is damaged and must be replaced. Major tear-down!

It is plastic of the outer drum that is being shaved off by the inner drum due to it running off center.
To replace the bearigs is a major undertaking, as it involves a strip down.

You did not supply the make and model of the washer. But from your description, it seem like you have a front load washer. The problem you describe sound like the support arms that hold the wash drum are broken. It is a big job to fix and also an expensive one unless it is still under warranty. The wash drum and spider will need to be replaced at a minimum, if the outer wash tub is damaged, it will also need to be replaced. The wash tub is made of plastic, and it is being damaged with the wash drum scraping the insides of the tub. To repair the entire washer needs to be disassembled and the drum and tub needs to be removed. The parts and labor most likely exceed the cost of the machine. Sorry.

I have this machine and had the same problem last week. We replaced the brushes for £18 (local store stocked them) and had it spinning within half an hour :)
