Question about HP Compaq nc8000 Notebook

1 Answer

Processor constantly runs at 100% regardless of the demands. Gradually has got worse over time. Tried to reinstall XP but it's now very slow with the processor still whirling away at 100%. Gets to the point to install XP after coping the file but sticks at 34 minutes and goes no further.

Fan is constantly loud.

I don't know how old your laptop is but most of the time dust build up in the heat sink and you have to clean it. The best way to do it is open the laptop and clean it. Don't try to do it from outside you will make it worse.

Acer aspire very slow

usually this is a case when it is already attacked by a virus or so ...Or the programs you run on it are to demanding on the resources ..If in the same configuration used to work well and this is a new thing means it is issued and need to be reinstalled..Use the recovery partition or recovery disk to reinstall the OS ..
save all important files from C drive (C partition ..and also from desktop and my documents ) and move them into D drive ..or back-up on a disk .
If you do not have a recovery partition.. use a boot-able disk with the operation system ..and reinstall it clean .make sure you have the drivers for it saved somewhere cause after the installing they will be missing ..
If you do not have any of that ... download a image with the operation system you need and burn it on a disk using Nero t make it boot-able .
Ask for instructions if you do not manage .
remember to check the resources available of your computer and if you upgraded to windows 7 from xp ..and this caused the slow running will be a wise decision to get back to xp ..or upgrade the ram memory if you want it to run faster..Also the cpu is best to be faster to run a operation system demanding as the windows 7 is .
let me know if you have problems the process..

Compac Presario F700 makes constant humming noise

Sounds like its the fan . The more demand you place on the system makes it run hotter so the fan speed automatically increases to compensate

I have a Thinkpad T60 that has been slow out of the box. I have wiped out the hard drive 3 time, had anew hard drive installed, and it just gets worse. It can take up to 20 minutes just to boot up, hangs...

its not the hard drive, so DONT reformat that again its the memory. sounds like either a bad memory chip or part of the main cpu has been damaged. Have this checked by Geeksquad or some other hands on tech.

2 ghz processor running at 220 mhz

Have you tried right clicking on the desktop (opening Display Properties), clicking on Screen Saver tab, Clicking the Power button, and setting the power schemes to Home/Office Desk? If its set on laptop it will reduce the processor speed when running on battery. I have noticed that even with it plugged in that some times it will run at half processor speed. Try that out.

Have a great day,

Slow startup, slow responce.

Well this is an obvious fix but replace your HDD with a 7200 rpm SATA HDD from
It should be a fairly cheap upgrade depending on how much storage you need.

You should see a significant improvement. I be willing to bet your HDD is a slow 5200 rpm and slow seek time.

Remember, the slowest parts of your computer is your HDD and CDROM

Gaming issues

I would make sure you have the latest bios, and video drivers to start. Make sure you have all latest updates for windows. Make sure your hard drive is defragmented. Also make sure your computer is clean and that it is ventilating/cooling properly. If that fails I would just format and reinstall windows.
Hope that helps,
