Question about HP Compaq nc8000 Notebook

1 Answer

Processor constantly runs at 100% regardless of the demands. Gradually has got worse over time. Tried to reinstall XP but it's now very slow with the processor still whirling away at 100%. Gets to the point to install XP after coping the file but sticks at 34 minutes and goes no further.

Why do videos play back choppily on my PC?

Well, if you're running Windows XP, I may have a few ideas. The OS itself is not usually the issue, but the age of your machine may be. Video on the web is constantly updating to higher resolutions. These require faster bandwidth internet connections and more powerful processors and video cards to support them. If your system is not running at least a Dual-Core processor, you may want to think upgrade. Also, remember that the more junk you have running on the system, the less memory is available and the slower the processor works. Remove redundant toolbars from the browser, clear history and caches and defragment the hard drive if recommended. Also, check your internet connection speed. If you are running dial-up, DSL, Satellite, or the lowest available cable internet speeds, this could also be an issue. Lastly, if you only view videos in the prime-time evening hours, remember that this is when internet bandwidth demand is highest. Even YouTube sometimes slows downs in the 7-11pm time slots.

How do i get rid of bloatware

Most likely your computer is running slow because you have a lot of garbage loading that you don't see. The more that loads, the greater demand is on the processor and resources so gradually it runs slower. Remove all that and you will be pleased at how faster your computer is running. I do this all the time for my clients. I can help you, but unfortunately this forum is not set up for easy back and forth communication. I hang out at www.suggest-a-fix.com which is a free computer help website. I will be happy to help you, just sign in and post your question in the Hardware section and I will be along. There are several (free) programs I use, but we will have to communicate back and forth and this forum just is not set up for that efficiently.

My Brother MFC-3240C printer does not print crisp images. Colors are washed out and lines run though the images. I reinstalled the CD and no luck. Can you tell me what to fix?

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there. Better than throwing the printer.

Good Luck
RK

2 ghz processor running at 220 mhz

Hi,

Have you tried right clicking on the desktop (opening Display Properties), clicking on Screen Saver tab, Clicking the Power button, and setting the power schemes to Home/Office Desk? If its set on laptop it will reduce the processor speed when running on battery. I have noticed that even with it plugged in that some times it will run at half processor speed. Try that out.

Have a great day,
Armymason

Try running Spybot (http://www.spybot.de) and avg on it. run Spybot several times (rebooting after every attempt) untill it finds nothing. If you built the machine are you sure that the processor heat sink is correctly installed and not over heating? What is the speed of the drive?

Slow computer

Pro won't make it run faster. Make sure the processor is fast enough to handle XP. If it's an older computer you've upgraded to XP, it may not have the horsepower.

Read this page from Microsoft:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314865

If the CPU conforms, the best thing to do is add RAM. I recommend a minimum of 1 GB for XP machines.

Make sure the hard drive is not nearly full, as that will limit the paging file that Windows uses. If your drive is near capacity (+90% full) it will slow down any computer, regardless of how much memory you have, or what speed the CPU is.

Microsoft Vista Too slow

Hiya what processor do you have in... its what & how your processor uses the ram available that would normally determine a happy environment. the minimum ram that Vista is happy and stable running on is 1gb.. so 1gb left over should in theory be enough to run all your office applications... what Version of Office are u running?

Have you recently installed an application that may be in conflict with vista?
Have you tried doing a virus and spyware scan? I would by process of elimination uninstall and reinstall programs to determine what... if any are causing any potential problems.
Do you defrag when necessary?

Try these first .. and we.ll go from there if necessary!
