Question about Black & Decker Black Decker/ Porter Cable 7800 Drywall Sander

Porter Cable 7800 Drywall Sander- Head overheating/motor laboring

While I was using the sander, the head came off and the plastic nut that holds the pad on was very hot as was the metal behind the head. When I put the pad back on, the motor was laboring, so I let it cool down and tried it again. The motor continued to work much to hard and sounded like it might stop.
Any help would be appreciated

The drive shaft is probably going bad. If all the greese is gone then it will cause it to heat up. you can find parts and diagrams to fix it at www.deltaportercable.com. search for modle number 7800 under the parts section.

Sounds to me like your sander is a fatality in the accident. Don't try to fix it as it is a disposable tool. You would run the risk of ruining any item you chose to sand. Balance is ever so important to a sander and the accident destroyed that balance!

Hi owner of 7800 drywall,

Sounds like a problem with the ON/OFF switch. Hit it with a bit of contact cleaner or WD40 and work it a dozen or so times, it may just be dirty...... at least if you are lucky.

When I push the sander on the wall it stops spinning and starts clicking

The best way to sand drywall is to use a pole sander (manually). You can pick them up for about $20.

This particular machine tends to leave grooves in the drywall compound if you are not familiar with how to use it.

If you should have any questions about "Drywall Finishing/Patching", or know someone who does, put your questions to Category:"Tools- Building & Power- HAND TOOLS" at FixYa.com

Cable twists around the housing and gets hot and makes it lock up and break the cable. I have three sanders out right now when they fix them, it will sand three houses and they tear up again.

Replacing broken cable on Porter Cable 7800 sander

just have to take off the plastic flexible casing it is screwed to the head. then you can pull the old wire out, if it it broken take out the plastic bellow and the 2 screws that are underneath that. then u can pull the remain of the old[broke shatf wire. To unscrew the casing use a plier and hold the metal piece not the plastic or u will broke it. \ REMENBER THE CASING IS NOT THE VACUUM HOSE IS UNDER IT.

Dry wall sander leaving serious lines in the mud

Shane, it's not the sander that is the problem. This is a difficult machine to use, even for those who have been in the trade for years. The trick is to keep the head moving, and apply vary little pressure. Sorry I didn't find you sooner, but I just found this site 2 weeks ago.I'm sure you have already painted by now but your best bet would be to purchase a manual pole sander. If you have any other drywall questions, or know anyone who does, feel free to ask.
