My GE phone (land line) I need to set the time.

My GE phone (land line) I need to set the time. It has a button that says "set" That directs me to push Eng for language. Then time starts flashing and that's it. I tried pushing buttons for correct time with the phone in hand (in use) and with the phone cradled. HELP
