No your operating sytem or boot files have a problem. Something is missing or corrupt in the operating system or boot files.

Try the steps below.

You will need a operating system disk or a repair disk to fix it. Insert it in the drive then boot from it. You want to get to a dos command prompt (black screen with white lettering) and type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot
bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd

Reboot and see if the problem is solved. If not get back to the dos command prompt and run the check disk utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to completion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when the options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

I could not upgrade neither windows XP, Windows 7 of this Product Model: GT5662. Would you assits? Thanks.

Hello kelvinvu, according to the information that I gathered from this computer model, it has Windows Vista 32 bit home premium installed on it. Windows XP is an older operating system so you can't "upgrade" to it. You could however install a fresh copy (more likely completely erasing all your previous information on vista and data files) or you could upgrade to Windows 7. Since you are using "Windows Vista 32 bit home premium", you have to upgrade to "Windows 7 32 bit home premium" or better. So if you were trying to "upgrade" to Windows 7 Home Basic, it will not allow that since it considers that a downgrade in the Operating System. You should actually be able to pop in the Windows 7 Home Premium CD while vista is running and start the upgrade process pretty painlessly that way. Just access the CD and walk through the menus for upgrading Vista to Windows 7. As a reminder, you must use the 32 bit discs. If you try and use the 64 bit discs (a different operating system as far as windows is concerned) you will have to go through the same process of installing a new version of windows (not upgrade). I hope this has solved your specific problem kelvinvu, have a great day!

I have a windows vista e machines laptop and i want to restore it to the manufacturer settings so all my programs are deleted how do i do it?

1. go into system options and select software.
select remove programmes.
then uninstall all programmes execpt the operating system.

2. if you wish to delete everything including the operating system.
you would have to format your hardrive and reinstall the operating sytem again
and all relevent drivers. then you will be close to manufacturers settings.
often a disc is supplied with the pc which has all the drivers etc already on it.
this can be read and installed once the operating sytem is installed.

i hope this is useful.

Can I change my operating system from vista to xp? If I do that what will be its advantage and disadvantage?

Yes you can as long as you have the installation disc with a valid product key. The disadvantage is an older operating system. The advantage is XP is more stable when installed and updated to Service Pack 3.

Hi, not sure exactly what you are describing here; you are I believe using dual operating systems? There does seem to be a conflick, causing niether operating sytems to bootup correctly. I will give you the procedure to delete and install one operating system, if this is not what you wish, can you come back to me?

Insert XP CD into drive, reboot pc pressing ESC button, or delete in some machines. This takes you into BIOS, change your primary boot device to CDrom, save changes and reboot. Select boot from CD once this appears and wait for files to be installed. Select the part of the hard drive you wish to use for your operating system (usually the largest) and select partition this drive. Delete any previous os, and reformat hard drive. (Be aware this removes everything saved on your hard drive, so always back up first) Re boot afterwards and reinstall of operating system will commence automatically (do not select boot from CD here).
