Try starting it up in safe mode. Reboot and hold down the F8 key.

Can not get the mac pro osx 10 5 8 to start with the utility disk or with regular start up my on pilot lite keeps blinking

Put the Mac install disk back in. Try pressing command-option-escape to force quit. If nothing happens, then press command-control-power to force a restart. If that doesn't work, press and hold the power button for five seconds or so until the computer shuts down. Power up the computer again, and hold the option key so you can select the instal disc for startup. Run Disk Utility again. Sometimes you get a tangled file reference that requires several tries to undo - this could be calling the sleep routine instead of what it's supposed to do.

take out the battery, then take out the memory. Put one of the two memory modules back in, and turn it on. If everything looks ok, shut down and put the other one back and try again...if everything is ok...then ok. If it doesn't work after the first one, let me know...

Hi My daughter has an Advent 5313 laptop. It will load vista ok then randomly while using the screen willbreak up into blocks and start shaking. on pressing and holding the power button it shuts down but...

Sounds like the unit could be over heating, or the laptop video memory is not strong enough to run vista with its full graphics. For the over heating issue try cleaning out the air vents with some compressed air and making sure your not placing the laptop on its belly completely, and use the legs to let air flow beneath the machine. For the Video Graphics, once Vista is up, go into the Video Settings or Perfomance of the machine. Best way to get to this Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Theme.

YOU DONT NEED BACKUP DISKS AS THEY WONT REPAIR THE STARTUP PROBLEM .. THEY WILL ONLY SAVE YOUR DATA FROM GETTING LOST .. WAHT YOU NEED IS A BOOTABLE XP OR VISTA DISK FROM WHICH YOU CAN REINSTALL THE WHOLE OPERATING SYSTEM AGAIN

My acer computer will turn on but wont come out of hibination mode

Some laptops have issues with Windows XPs hibernation mode. To get the computer back up again you should just hold the power button down until it shuts off completely. Some laptops won’t shut off even if you do this. When this happens you have to take the battery out to get it to turn off. Make sure it is not plugged into the wall when you do this otherwise it wont work.

Once you get the computer back running again you may want to disable hibernation if it seems like its going to keep happening. Go to Start, Settings Control Panel or Start, Control Panel and go to the Power Options icon. Change the hibernation section to never. You may want to try standby as an alternative. Standby saves all your running applications and documents into RAM while hibernate saves them to the hard drive. Hibernate uses less power from your battery, but it will take you considerably longer to get the computer back up. If you always plug the computer in then you may want to disable standby and hibernate since you really dint need them while plugged in.

Let me know if this works.
