Question about LG DVB418 DVD Player

Snowy reception on TV with LG DVB418

Have the coaxial cable from my antennae going to my new LG DVB418 and it is picking up excellent digital TV signals. Problem is my TV reception (using the analogue tuner in the TV) is now snowy, when this was never a problem before.

Any ideas on why this is now occuring and anything I could do to fix this.

    Thanks for the quick response.

The aerial cable goes from the wall connection to the 'aerial in' on the DVD player and there is an 'aerial out' from the DVD straight to the TV. The DVD player is picking up digital channels, and the TV's analogue signal has a picture, but it has some snow on some channels and interference lines on others. The setup was similar with my VCR, and the TV signal was clear.

Could the DVD have a poor internal connection that is causing the signal to deteriorate from the aerial in to the aerial out? Would a splitter be better, to split the signal from the wall to the DVD and the TV seperately - or is this going to have the same problem.

Have you got both cables going into your video ?? if not you need a video splitter to input both the digital and analogue aerials then have a coaxial cable going to the tv

No audio

Good day!!!!

Please try to play a DVD or any movies to your TV to determine weather the problem is on the TV itself or on the signal reception or on the digital cable box..

If the TV have audio when you play a DVD your TV is good..

Possible problems are:
1. loose wiring on antenna (coaxial)
2. digital cable fault contact your provider for immediate remedy
3. bad tuner.

Hope it helps..

My cable tv service technician stopped by today to check on the reason as to why I was receiving prolonged and intermittent snowy reception on my DVR Motorola DCT3416 I. He consulted with his lead...

Seems logical to disconnect and remove the VCR and plug the cable right into the tv.

If the problem still persists after unplugging the power cord to the VCR and running the coax cable straight into the tv, then you know the VCR has nothing to do with the problem.

It is important to unplug the power cord to the VCR to test this and not just switch it off since it might be some kind of electrical interference generated by the VCR whenever it's plugged in.

If it's the DVR then I guess exchanging it for a new one is your only choice.

Good luck.

Sharp digital tv cannot receive digital signal

This television would benefit from an hdtv indoor outdoor amplified antenna not obstructed by trees, aluminum, bricks, and etc. Make sure the signal type is air and not cable and complete a channel scan during primetime tv hours after connecting to this antenna. Buy a large one that you can mount to the wall usually in a large flat box on the shelf in the store. Philips has one sold at Walmart.

Are you using the coaxial cable to connect the converter box to the set, or have you hooked it up with rca type video cables? The latter are highly recommended if you want a better connection and have audio/video inputs on the back of your television. But you don't want both A/V & coaxial.
Also be aware that some older antennae will not pick up digital signals well. Try to use a coaxial cable all the way up to the antenna junction. Find out where most signals are broadcast from in your area and aim the antennae appropriately. (Use a compass.) See helpful link here. Your converter remote should have a signal strength button that you can use to check the various channel strengths. If you're using a coaxial link to the tv and have little signal strength, expect a poor picture. You'll also want to select the Mono option for Audio Output in the converter menu.
Finally, depending on the age of your set, if you're using rca video inputs, use the TV/Video button or the AV button on the TV or universal remote to switch the input from the channel on your TV to the video 1 setting (or whatever picks up the digital converter signal) so you'll get that clear signal. Then you can use the converter remote to change channels, adjust volume, etc.

Over air reception

Unfortunately, I'm in Australia and not familiar with New York TV transmissions, however, the reception principals are the same.

Your signals are most likely bouncing off walls etc in your apartment with several 'reflections' being picked up by your indoor antenna.

This 'multipath' reception causes errors in the digital signals.

Your receiver can correct a certain amount of errors, but if there are too many, your picture will pixelate and the sound will make loud noises and then you will lose reception altogether.

The fix for this problem is connecting to a roof-mounted antenna and signal distribution system. Most apartment buildings have one, however some only distribute cable channels.

There is a possibility of a fault with your TV, but from what you describe, it sounds like a signal issue.

Have a chat to your building manager and ask what system they use for FTA reception in your building.. perhaps there's a fault that they are not aware of.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Good luck.

Sanyo DS31590 and converter box

I just checked the owners manual online. Looks like this model only has an NTSC analog tuner. No ATSC digital tuner built in.

If you use cable or satellite TV services, the digital converters won't help you. The coupon-eligible ones are strictly for use with a traditional antenna. If this is your situation, ignore the remainder of this message.

If you use a regular TV antenna with this TV, then, yes, you will need a converter box. FYI, the Insignia model at Best Buy and the Zenith at Circuit City, and elsewhere (radio shack) have gotten good reviews from early purchasers. More converter box models will be available in a few months time.

If your current reception with your antenna is poor (snowy), you may have problems receiving the new DTV signals. If not, you should be pleasantly surprised with the quality of the DTV signals - and the extra "virtual" channels. Try the converter box using the RCA video and audio inputs, for a slightly better picture than with the coaxial cable inputs.

Good Luck

How do we adjust our tv

You didn't mention anything about a cable box, VCR, etc. which might be connected. A snowy pic. means simply, inadequate signal is reaching the tuner, or the TV tuner itself is bad. If the first is so... check your cabling. If you have a VCR or DVD player hooked in between the cable box or outside antenna (whichever is the case), VCR (RF or ant.) out should go to the TV, VCR antenna (RF or ant.) input to the cable box. Also check the cable wire itself. If you look at the end of the cable, you should see a relatively thin center wire. This center conductor is what carries the signal. If it is missing, bent over, or too short to make contact with whatever it is connected to, you will have a very snowy pic. If you have a spare TV, connect it in place of your "new" TV, to narrow down the problem. Lastly, if all is well with hookup, cabling, etc. the TV might have a problem. Sometimes the tuner has a component defect, or the coaxial connector can be broken.
