Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

2 Answers

I finished building a new computer, only to find that it would not come alive. It refuses to go into Post. If i hold down the reset button while i applied power it runs but still refuses to go into bios. Then i discovered that if i disconnect the power (4 pin plug near the back plate, which i think is 12v power rail) it runs , but it still won't go into post-- nothing on the Monitor. Please HELP !!!

Check your ram/cmos battery/HDD/cddrive if problem not solved direct disconnect cpu power connector when system ON then reconnect when system ON
if your problem not sloved check your power supply voltage as a given below by color
1 - Yellow = +12V 2 - Blue = -12V 3 - Red = +5V
4 - White = -12V 5 - Orange = +3.3V 6 - Black = GND
7 - Gray = PG +5V 8 - Violet = SB +5V
9 - Green = PS ON +5V
you can see that SMPS work or not by Green & Black wire shorting if fan is start means it ok if not means it not ok

Where is reset button, or how can I reset a gateway 504GR

If you really do mean the reset button and not something else, it will be located on the front panel somewhere. If you can't find one, then your computer does not have one, there are many retail makers that save a nickle by not installing one anymore. In that case the only thing you can do is press the three keys: Cntrl/Alt/Delete to access Task Manager, then select reboot. OR for a hard reset hold in the power button for a few seconds and the computer will shut down, then reboot. I do not suggest doing this except in case of an extreme situation since it is possible (not probable) to cause corruption in the operating system.
If you are having problems with your computer, I suggest you join www.suggest-a-fix.com which is a free computer help forum. I hang out there as well as other techs who help people with their computer problems. In your case, post in the Hardware and Media section.

Did you try resetting the PRAM and SMC?
Resetting PRAM and NVRAM

1. Shut down the computer (by holding the power button).

2. Turn on the computer. Wait until I hear the boot sound.

3. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys (simultenously).

4. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

5. Release the keys.
---------------
Reset the SMC

When the above 5 steps didn't prove to of much help you can try resetting the SMC.
Close the Mac.
Detach any peripherals, cables, power wires, battery etc.
Be patient for several minutes.
Re-attach all the cables, peripherals like before.
Now turn ON the OS X

Hi
Just reset you bios and see. I will tell you simple way toreset system for your BIOS

1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery. Remove this battery alongwith the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fullydischarge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery and plug inyour system. Your reset is now complete

2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Let's say that thejumper connect with pins 2 and 3. follow picture with this link http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000235.htm b> Remove the jumperwhile the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Now Power on your machinefor a minute. (Note: Your system willnot POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Nowyour system will POST. Your reset is now complete. Now you switch off the pc and fit the sata /pata cabletightly. If the problem same please fitthe cable as NEW.If the problem is creating same please install a new DVD/CD RW. Hopeit solve you

Error code c00d124d appears on my zune while sync

You may have to attempt a Hard Reset if this issue is persistant.

This will erase everything on your device, as a warning please be certian you have backup copies or this is a last resort.

Here is the original post:
WARNING: A hard reset will delete everything on your Zune.
  1. Press and hold the back button
  2. Press and hold up until it reboots
  3. Depending on which Zune you have, immediately do one of the following:
    1. If you have a Zune 4 GB, Zune 8BG, or Zune 80GB, immediately press and hold the Back button Back at the same time as you press the right side of the Zune pad and the Play/Pause button. Continue to hold these buttons until the Zune device restarts and you receive the following message: “Clearing contents. Please wait.”
    2. If you have a Zune 30GB, immediately press and hold the Back button Back at the same time that you press the right side of the Zune pad and the center of the Zune pad. Continue to hold these buttons until the Zune device restarts and you receive the following message: “Clearing contents. Please wait.”

Power goes off when power button is released

More than likely it is a dead motherboard

however....

you can try to reset the BIOS and see if that fixes it. To reset the BIOS, UNPLUG THE POWER CORD FROM YOUR COMPUTER (FAILURE TO DO SO MAY CAUSE A DEADLY SHOCK) open your computer. Discharge and body static by touching the side of the computer. Remove the BIOS/CMOS battery which looks like an oversized watch battery. Leave it our for 1-8 hours. Replace the battery and cloase your case. plug in the power cord and try to turn on teh computer. If this fails then you have a dead motherboard taht you have to replace

Dell e510 won't make it to post

Unplug computer, disconnect all usb/monitor/internet, open it, hold power button until green led on the inside on the motherboard turns off, pop out the BIOS battery (looks like a big watch battery and use a small flathead screwdriver to depress the spring lock on one side), plug in computer, hold power button for about 20 seconds (must reset BIOS), let up on power button, wait 10 seconds and push power button. The computer should turn on. Wait for it until activity seems stable (1 min. or so). Push powerbutton to shut off.

If this has worked you have proven that it's not the power supply (it turned on). If you purchased a non dell power supply, you might try this with the original one installed.

Go buy a new battery (CR2032 3 volt). Unplug computer, open it, hold power button until green led on the inside on the motherboard turns off, pop in new battery, plug in (you should notice the power button blinking amber again), hold power button until it stops blinking (about 20 sec....again must reset BIOS), wait 10 sec., push power button. the computer should turn on. Wait for it until activity seems stabe (1 min. or so). Push powerbutton to shut off.

Now, close case, plug in all usb/monitor/internet/etc. Power up computer. You'll get an internal floppy drive error. Push F2 (maybe F1) to get into the BIOS settings and go to "drives" and turn off the internal floppy. Save and exit. The computer should boot properly now.

This seems to be a big problem with the e510, my theory is that this one small battery is the root of most of these failures (as these computers usually fail after 1-2 years), not the power supply or the motherboard (heck, when you replace the motherboard it comes with a new one of these batteries...a several hundred dollar piece of hardware, with a $5 battery that will actually fix it).

NEC P700 STUCK PREPARING TO STAND BY

windows error, happens from time to time

hold down the power button for about 10 seconds to force shutdown reset it

more then likely a service in memory was refusing to shut down (probably an anti-virus)

if you continue to have problems like this might I suggest a registry repair utility such as registry mechanic from PC tools.

Power on then off

If you have not installed any new hardwares, perhaps your computer infected with virus, run your computer in safe mode and then scan your computer.

If your antivirus is potent then maybe you have installed new software to triggering your system to restart and restart to protect the system.

if non of this; maybe your system is corrupted. backup your files and reinstall the windows to repair the errors on it.
