How does the mute function work on the Kenwood KDC-5043U. Where do I connect the brown mute wire? I have a Samsung Galaxy S5

If you were installing a separate hands-free phone kit along with the Kenwood head unit, you'd connect the Kenwood mute wire to the muting output on the hands-free kit. This allows the other device to mute the audio from your radio while you're using the phone. If you don't have a hands-free kit, you wouldn't connect the Kenwood's mute wire to anything at all.

I have a kenwood stereo and im trying to install it but whenever i play my phone through the aux cable it stops and says "call" on the screen. Its an older vehicle so i didnt hook up the brown "mute" wire...

You shouldn't need the mute wire. That is only used to temporary mute the audio, if you do get a call and need the music off.The aux is only for line level audio input. I think your phone goes above and beyond what the radio can do. Sorry.

Have clarion cz200 receiver hooked it up it powers up and everything just fine but no audio...checked everything and it seems fine but no audio am i missing something? its in a 1981 chevrolet c10 pick up

With this particular unit you have a Tele mute which is cell phone related to mute volume when your cell phone rings if this is grounded then you have a problem.

1) Verify that the speakers of the vehicle are correctly hooked up , you can test your speakers by taking a 9 volt battery and touching the positive and negative leads of the speaker wires (make sure they are disconnected for radio) you should hear a click.

2) Take a volt/ohm meter set it to ohms touch the leads together this is continuity. Next touch the wire leading to the speaker to be tested and place the other lead of the meter to the bare metal of truck. If the needle pegs all the way over you have a shorted wire.

3) If using a seperate amp to power the speakers you need to insure that all connection to the amp are made properly and grounds are correct.

here is a link to clarions website to provide a troubleshooting manual.

One other thing to check is the center channel balance as if it is biased you need to adjust it.

There are only a few simple things that can cause no audio output
1) Volume not correct
2) Audio output connections incorrect
3) Speaker wires are bad
4) damaged speakers
5) tele mute is grounded
6)Speaker wires insulation is cut and grounding out or is not making a good connection
7) worst case Radio is defective ( it happens)

there is a wire on the harness (pink or brown i think) called cell phone mute. if this wire is touching power or ground or any other wires you will have these problems. make sure this wire is taped off and secured behind the dash.

If it was hooked up intentionaly it will mute your stereo anytime a call comes in on a cell phone.

Check the TEL mute wire(brown) properly insulated if you havn't connected any cell phone. If this TEL mute wire touches car metal body, there may be a chance to display "CALL" on the display.

Pioneer head unit

You have to have a "Car Kit" installed for your cellular phone, either Bluetooth or not. It would have a wire that would be connected to your Head Unit to enable the Telephone Mute or Att, as you choose.

If you dont have a car kit, it is of no use to you.

Best of Luck.

How to mute the radio

Here is the link for the user manual for the arx 4570 which is similar; (sorry exact model manual not available that i could find) For this model - the only ways you can mute it are by using the mute button on the set or on the remote control. Hope this helps - please ask again if not :)
