Question about Radio Shack 15-2142 Remote Control
I BOUGHT THIS UNIVERSAL REMOTE FROM XS CARGO AND NO MANUAL. I TRIED MANUAL SET UP BY PRESSING SET AND DVD AT SAME TIME BUT NOTHING, BUT HOPING I WAS DOING IT RIGHT. I NEED THE CODES IN HOPES TO GET WORKING
The reply/steps from "tviceman," DOES NOT LOOK CORRECT!
There is no 'P' button on the PX-RC1 remote I have. (apparently there are a few versions of the PX RC1 Universal remote.)
Here's what you should do:
Stick a DVD in your DVD and turn it on manually so it's powered up.
On the PX-RC1;
1.) Press SET (and Hold) + DVD key, and release.
2.) Press SET button AGAIN! Led will flash.
Aim PX-RC1 at your DVD player and,
3.) press the "PLAY" arrow button. If the DVD doesn't start playing,
4) Press CH+ button, and the PLAY button again.
REPEAT STEPS 3 & 4 until your DVD Plays the movie/disk.
IF YOU FOUND THE CODE AND OVER SHOOT, PRESS THE SET BUTTON AGAIN TO REVERSE THE SEARCH CYCLE. PRESSING 'CH+' WILL ACTUALLY SCAN BACK TO THE PREVIOUSLY SELECTED CODE. and NOT 'CH-'
5.) Press the DVD button to lock in the DVD code.
Some Devices are not "keen" when using the power button, so turn the device on, and use the play button instead.
Note: Searching for your DVD code manually may take up to 20 minutes of cycling through the CH+ and Play!!! So be prepared to spend a little time.
Note: The other case is that Universal Remotes do not always have all of the codes for all devices!!! If your device code is not available in the Universal remote you are trying to program, you will never find a code that will work for that particular device...
You MIGHT luck into a code that has some limited functionality for your device, (IE: Power on/off, Vol +-controls, channel +- controls) but not all of them. You might have to settle for that, or chance on re-cylce through for another code.
I got my DVD player working that way, and my VCR. I'm still having trouble myself with finding the Code for my Yamaha Home Theater A/V Receiver though. There's no "Receiver" or "Audio" type button on this this PX-RC1 remote, but I have found some info that indicates the "AUX" button can be used for ANY device. possibly even AV receivers. Can anyone verify this fact?
Please & thanks.

SEARCHING FOR YOUR CODE
If your device does not respond to the remote after
trying all codes listed for your brand, or if your
brand is not listed, try searching for your code. For
example, to search for a code for your TV:
1. Press TV once.
2. Press and hold P until the red LED blinks
twice, then release.
3. Enter 9 9 1. The LED blinks twice.
4. Aim the remote at the TV and press Power.
The remote sends IR codes from its library to
the selected device, starting with the most
popular code first.
5. If the TV responds, go to step 6. If the TV
does not respond, press CH+. The remote will
try the next code. Continue until the TV
NOTE: Press CH- to try the previous code.
6. To lock in the code, press P once. The LED
7. To search for other device codes, repeat steps
1 to 6, substituting the appropriate device
