After formatting my compaq laptop with windows xp my sound card did'nt work.ithink its gone out..how to buy new card?and how much it will cost

dont think about buying a new soundcard until you have tried all possibities to fix the sound
if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall both the sound drivers and the sound card make sure you have both of these devices backed up to a disc before uninstalling
a yellow? question mark means you need to install/update driver to do this
right click to install driver also
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

There is no sound from my lg laptop

May be the problem is with your computer settings or perhaps an outdated or faulty driver, and not with the speakers. Checking to see if any settings or drivers can fix the problem is a good idea before attempting to open the laptop or giving in and buying external speakers.Try following steps:

1: Test the audio in more than one program. If audio works in some programs but not others, the "mute" setting might be on in one or more
programs and should be unmuted.

2: Turn up the volume on the external volume control. It may be on the side or on the front of your laptop, or even on the keyboard (some models have a touch-sensitive strip at the top of the keyboard that you might not have realized controls the volume). Also look for any "mute" shortcut keys you might have accidentally pressed (the symbol looks like a speaker with a diagonal line through it) and try pressing it again to see if sound is restored.

3: Go to your volume controls ("Control Panel," "Hardware and Sound," "Audio Devices," "Sound" and "Adjust System Volume"), and under "Main Volume," make sure the slider is slid up and that the volume is not set to "mute.

4: Plug a pair of headphones into the headphone jack on the laptop and see if you can hear sound that way. If you hear noise in headphones or external speakers but not the built-in speakers, either your drivers or the speakers are the problem. Try uninstalling the drivers for your speakers in "Device Manager" and reinstalling them by visiting your laptop maker's website and downloading any updated drivers you need.

5: Open "Device Manager" by going to "Start," "Control Panel" "System" and "Maintenance." Open "Sound "Video, and Game Controllers," and see if a sound card is detected. If there is but there is a yellow question mark next to it, right click it, and go to "Properties," "General" and "Device Status" to see how to fix any problems. You may need to update or install new drivers from your computer maker's website. If there is no yellow question mark, uninstall and reinstall the drivers to see if this fixes the problem.

6: Reinstall your audio device drivers from your laptop brand's website if a sound card is not detected. It is possible some recent changes removed the drivers and made your speakers undetectable, so reinstalling the drivers should fix the problem.

"No Active Mixer Device installed".....
The Sound and Audio issue of Windows.....the infamous issue being faced by many PC/Laptop/Notebook users all over the world....on clicking the volume control icon in the task bar near the clock.....or....Sound and Audio Devices Grayed Out in the Control Panel

Go to Device Manager, select Sound, Audio and Games Ctlr expand (+) press the plus sign, go one by one on all those that show a speaker image...select each one by one and right click, and if it has the "uninstall" option...just uninstall.
Dont do any thing further....shut down pc/laptop
Then...u need to go into system BIOS
1 - Start PC/Laptop...press DEL or F1/F2/Insert/Home key...this selection of key to go into BIOS depends upon ur type of PC in some Del key works in some F1/F2 key works to go into BIOS....you need to do this before the WindowsXP screen appears....get into BIOS...
2 - Scroll/go to On Board Peripherals...press enter...next screen....
3 Look for
A- "On Board audio"
B- "AC97 audio" or any thing that says "Audio"
C- "Look for anything that says "MIDI" with some numbers 301,205 etc in [ ]
just Disable all the above by using PgUP PGDN key
Press F10 and chose Yes to save the setting in BIOS
or use Save and Exit in BIOS

Let WinXP load...go to Device Manager...go to Sound Audio and Games Controller...check all those that you uninstalled earlier if they RE-Appear...

It should NOT......Re-appear.....if it does then do the above process once more.

U are now all set for the next move....

U need to spend just 1$ to buy this product on Ebay...you can buy any similar product of your choice but it must have the audio and mic output ports like this one has...and must be able to connect to your USB port of your PC/Laptop

This below image and product name is only for your info, you can buy any such similar product available in your area....but it's must have the Audio and Mic output ports like the one on the image below and must be able to connect to your PC/Laptops USB ports...

Recently Microsoft made some auto updates and installed them (intentionally or due to bad programming is a big ??) on many machines all over the world and due to that many user have been facing these following issues with respect to the Sound and Audio controls of PC/Laptops
"No Active Mixer Device installed".....The Sound and Audio issue of Windows.....the infamous issue being faced by many PC/Laptop/Notebook users all over the world....on clicking the volume control icon in the task bar near the clock.....or....Sound and Audio Devices Grayed Out in the Control Panel

OK don’t worry I have developed a simple solution….it’s very simple....(no large investments, no programming, no opening of machines, no visit to a tech shop)

This is a sure shot solution...101% guarantee...Just do this...
Go to My Computers / Right Click / Properties / in System Properties / Chose Hardware Tab / Click Device Manager, Select Sound, Audio and Games Ctlr (look for a speaker image) then… Expand (+) press the plus sign, go one by one on all those that show a speaker image...select each of them…one by one and right click, and see if it has the "uninstall" option......just uninstall.
Dont do anything further....just shut down pc/laptop…Start / Turnoff / Shutdown

Then...you need to go into system BIOS…how to get into BIOS is detailed below…
RESTART computer with power on button…
1 - Start PC/Laptop...press DEL or F1 / F2 / Insert / Home key...this selection of key to get into BIOS depends upon the type of PC. In some Del key works, in some F1/F2 key etc etc works to get into BIOS....try again….you need to do this before the WindowsXP screen appears....get into BIOS...
2 - Scroll/go to “On Board Peripherals” use down/up arrow key...press enter...next screen....
3 Look for…..
A- "On Board Audio" [Enabled] / [Auto]
B- "AC97 audio" or anything that says "Audio" [Enabled] / [Auto]
C- "Look for anything that says "MIDI" with some numbers 301,205 etc in [ ]
Just chose Disable on all of the above one by one by using PgUP / PGDN key Press F10 and chose Yes to save the setting in BIOS or use Save and Exit option in BIOS

Let WinXP load...go to Device Manager...go to Sound Audio and Games Controller...check all those that you uninstalled earlier if they RE-Appear...It should NOT......Re-appear.....if it does then do the above process once more.
