Question about HP Compaq Presario V6000T Notebook

1 Answer

My Pavilion ZV5000 has the following power problem:

1. when on/off pressed, the LED at the front comes on. No Fan, No activity at all. The LED goes off after 5 ~7 seconds. This is always the same case.

2. Battery will charge. But also on battery the laptopt acts the same.

3. Power supply, plug and bus well soldered.

4. No melted components on the board.

5. The strange thing is, that when I plug in power, and leave the on/off button alone, the board stays cold, except for the NVIDIA chip. It heats up a bit.

Someone with an experiance about this? Help needed. Thanks.

Thanks, but how dit you determine this? Are there any threads to read more about this fenomen?

I would be able to replace the chip, but I would be needing more information.

    Thanks again!

Was it running hot when you first had a problem, and can you take a voltmeter to the power supply output?

I'm sure this is a problem for most. HP Pavilion dv9205us starts up, fan engages, Led's light up, drive attempts small start, but stops and after 15 to 20 seconds shuts down with a 1 second flash...

Could be a power issue.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

ZV5120 pavilion notebook powercord not connecting

You can get an exact adapter from eBay link below, they are quite cheap. Sometimes the break is close to the end of the plug, and sometimes, the actual solder on the socket inside the unit is fractured, causing intermittent connections. Often we are able to use the old cord Plug, and graft on the new power Lead. However it is wired and regardless of how many wires are inside, the is only One - Negative, the OUTER contact. The INNER Contact is Always + Positive, sometimes there are three wire inside, TWO are Plus, and ONE, the shield, is negative.

This is a frquent issue with both the zv5000 and zx5000 series of laptops. The issue is a cold solder joint between the motherboard connector and the sound card which is a sister card or riser card. A technician with good soldering skills can resolder both of the connectors and your issue will be fixed.
