Question about GE Dryers
I have a GE Profile Dryer that is about 9 years old and lately it has been making this horrible sound when drying clothes. It is a high pitched squeel. I think it is the belt, Can anyone tell me how to change it myself? and guide me thru it, Is it really that hard?
It's most likely not the belt. It's either the tension pulley whereas the bearing has gone bad. Or it's the rear drum bearing. The drum sits in this saddle type bearing and when it goes bad it can drop the drum and you can be rubbing metal on metal.
I would let a service tech take care of it. Should be about $100.00 for service call and parts. He could do it in about an hour or less.
Chances are you won't get anyone to sell you the parts either. They got the market cornered. Most places only sell to techs.
Good Luck and I hope this helps.
