Frigidaire Model # FRS23R4A - Not cooling

Refrigerator: Frigidaire Model # FRS23R4A side-by-side was purchased in 2002.
The lights are on, the fan is running, the compressor is not hot it is rather cool to the touch and there is not noise at all
Both the fridge and the freezer are not cooling. Is the problem with the compressor or something else. Thanks for the help

    Hi Peyton,

The fan next to the compressor is running. I pull out the relay/capacitor from the compressor, then put it back. Now I hear a buzzing every two minutes, this buzzing goes for 10 sec. then stop until the next two minutes.
I have been told, one way to check it the relay is bad, is to pull out from the compressor and shake it, if there is any rattling, then it is bad, which I did, and indeed I hear some rattling. Now I am wondering how I can test if the compressor is good or bad. Any comments are welcomed. Thanks.

My Frigidaire Model # FRS23R4AW6 is not working.
The fan next to the compressor is working.
I replaced both the relay/capacitor but still the compressor is not starting.
I did a ohm reading of the compressor, it looks good:
    C-S = 9.3
    C-R = 4.1
    S-R = 5.7

Is there another test or check before I gave up on this frig? Thanks

is the fan next to the compressor running? its possible there is something wrong with the compressor or hte starter for the compressor but if the fan that cools the compressor is not running then you may have a temp control messed up. let me know. Peyton

Wihtout replacing the relay there really isnt any way to tell if its the compressor or the relay. the relay is veyr inexpensive in comparison to the compressor usually less than 70 bucks. and the best part is you can replace it yourself as opposed to paying a service company. this is the part number 218721113 and it prices at 38 dollars thru
once you replace the part if the compressor starts you should be ok. if it doesnt start then you will need to call a service company to replae the compressor or look at replaing the refrig. if the unit is less than 5 years old it may be under warranty for the compressor so check into that first. if I can be of further assistance dont hesitate to ask. thanks Peyton

I am assuming that you verified line voltage to your compressor so after replacing the relay and overload if the compressor will not start you have a bad compressor. the cost of repacing a compressor is generally prohibitive in comparison to replacing the refrig. sorry for the bad news.

Compressor doesn't run

If the fan located next to the compresor works that means that the compresor relay is bad or the compresor burned out.

Fridge on the Fritz

sounds as if perhaps theres a fan in the freezer, copartment that is not spinning, circulating the cold air around, or if that fan is spinning you have adefost issue, not "self defrosting so the ice is building up preventing proper circulation
