How much free space do you have left on your hard drive?

If your dive is almost full it will cause your PC to run slow, and if there is NO free space, it won't boot at all at some point.

First, try disabling the Startup applications which will be starting along with Windows from the msconfig by following the instructions provided below :
Click on the Start Menu + R to get the Run command box, type msconfig and click on the Ok button.
In the window that appears, click on the Startup tab which lists the applications that are started along with Windows.
Try disabling the applications that are not required from this window and click on Ok to save the settings and exit.
If the performance of the Notebook is still low, you need to suspect the Hard Drive.
Try checking the Hard Drive by following the instructions provided below :
Start or restart the Notebook and start tapping the F10 key.
In the window that appears, go to the Diagnostics or Tools tab and select the Hard Drive test in this field.
If the Hard Drive is reported as Failed, you may need to go ahead and purchase a new one.
You can purchase new Hard Drives for your Notebook from the link below :

Computer loads very slow especailly

The more programs and software you put onto a computer, the slower it can become.
However, the first thing to do is defragment your hard drive. Start your computer, open 'My computer' and right click on the C drive icon. From the tabs choose TOOLS and then defragment .. The time taken to defragment depends on the size of your hard drive.
Then go to the control panel and look for Install/Uninstall programs. If there's anything you can live without, uninstall it.
Restart your computer. If things are still slow (and you are confident you have plenty of RAM - memory) installed, suspect a failing hard drive.

When I go to compose mail, I cannot attatch a file. Where it used to say

  • The majority of the time the reason an e-mail will not open or send is because the computer is cluttered from extended use without being cleaned up (defragmanted).

  • IF you have McAfee then you can access their defragmentor. If you have one on your operating system you can access it their as well. This is part of "optimizing" your computer.

  • Open your browser and go to tools and erase all your history, cookies, CACHE, etc. This will clean thing up a bit there.

  • Also if you have a ton of music, pictures and videos on your computer you may want to put them onto a thumb drive as these things can slow your computer down as well.

  • To defrag a MAC ---
  1. 1. Open the Disc Utility program, which is located in the "Utilities" folder of your "Applications" directory. Highlight your hard drive from the list and have the program repair the permissions.
  2. 2. Look for a program to defrag your computer. There are some free utilities that can work on your Mac hard drive, but you should seriously consider purchasing a program because of the stability and support that comes with a purchased product.
  3. 3. Take steps to back up your data before you defrag a Mac hard drive. Data loss is unlikely with well-respected programs, but defragging is a long and extensive process, and you can never be too safe.
  4. 4. Plan to run your defragging program during a time when you won't need to use your computer. No matter which program you decide on, it can take up to several hours to defrag a Mac hard drive. Some companies even suggest running the program overnight.

  • Mac Janitor is pretty easy to use. You just click on the pic that says "All Tasks" and the defrag will run. When you see "done" then it is done.

  • If you have a PC and are running windows then the is usually a disk defragmenter available.
  1. 1. Click on the globe in the lower left hand corner of your screen and type in defragmentor.
  2. Then defragment the C drive.

  • Make sure to empty the trash as well.

  • When you have done all this you need to restart your computer twice. After the reset let everything boot up all the way. Then reset it again. Then go try your e-mail and you will be surprised how fast the e-mail, and the web in general works for you now.

  • Also I recommend that you run a full security sweep with your internet security program as well. Make sure that stays up to date. And make sure when all is said and done that you do two resets of your computer.

  • Hope this helps

  • Hello, Thank you for the opportunity to assist you. The majority of the time the reason an e-mail will not open or send is because the computer is cluttered from extended use without being cleaned up (defragmanted). Have you ever seen commercials for maxing your computers speed? Were gonna do that. They basically run you through the steps to clean the old stuff out of your computer and file the rest away.

  • Now if you have McAfee then you can access their defragmentor. If you have one on your operating system you can access it their as well. This will be "optimizing.

Hi. My computer is super slow in online games. He's very old too! Do I have any solution to fix it? This situation is very annoying! :(

Here is a list of things you can do to speed up your computer:
- add more memory - upgrade the graphic/video card - port-forward your router - defrag the hard-drive - scan with anti-virus program
The last two should be done first!

I put 140G photos in my 500G WD element external HD. Now it is very slow and some files cannot be copied. What is the good way to get the data back? Thanks.

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- you can buy a new W.D. device, through the W.D. web-site, at a significant discount.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

ok this is gonna be a bit complicated, you need to put your cashe on a different drive (other than the C: drive) because when you watch TV the computer will use memory if you don't have enough memory the computer then takes disk space and uses it for memory called cashe, moveing your cashe to a different drive will improve the performace of your computer because everything you have runs off the C: or root drive the less access to this dive during acctivities the less freeze up will acure, or you can purchase more memory, you might want to defrag your computer as well, I have 4 drives on my maine computer 2 300 gig drives C:, D:, E:, and F:, C: is my system drive, Cashe drive is D: so when my computer goes for virual memory it does not affect C: and I hardly notice, hope this helped you
