Sounds like th clutch brake is engaged. Try Pushing firmly foward on the hand guard in front of the handle. It should click to release the clutch brake.
Let me know if this helps.

SOURCE: chainsaw dont run right

Adjust the "H" needle valve slightly more CCW and try it. This is also often helpful.
Carburetor Adjustment by Madsens.com

CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.

There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full – may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too.

SOURCE: Homelite 10540 chainsaw 35CC chainsaw won't start when hot

Go to: http://www.drystacked com for a 12 page article on Walbro carburetor theory and troubleshooting. Check particularly, the position of the gasket in the lower chamber. Check the spark plug for blue, snappy spark when the engine is hot. If ok, place a small amount of fuel mix in the cylinder and try for start. If it pops several times, look to the fuel system. Check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Does the primer bulb fill with fuel after several pumps? Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. When the engine is hot, try not using the choke, but set the fast idle. Hope some of this helps!

Drain oil back out of tank B 4 you put away , its also a very good idea if you drain and purge gas tank as well , as either of these fluids left in saw will cause u problems if you leave in inside for long periods(< week) when you restart saw

This homelite chainsaw is bran new

Remove the spark plug and check for blue and snappy spark. If weak or nothing, try another spark plug. If still improper spark, return the machine for replacement under warranty. Make sure you have followed all instructions for re-start. Good luck!

Homelite xl chainsaw revved up & quit and won't start now

I suspect you have a fuel delivery problem or a dirty carburetor. As a chain saw runs out of fuel they often revv slightly (running lean). HTH

Saw will not stay running

It sounds like it is not getting enough fuel to keep it running. There may be a clogged screen in the carb or dirt somewhere in the carb. Another thing you can check is the adjustment on the carb.
