My HP 3550 deskjet will simply not print. It goes through the motions and seems to be printing --but the page is blank or very faint. I have already cleaned and re-calibrated the printer

Check ink-levels -- no ink means no printing.
Run a few more "print-head-cleaning" cycles -- clogged ink-jets cannot spray ink onto the paper.

Printer is not loading paper

The blinking lights are probably error codes. By the sequence, you can tell where the problem is. Also, you should be able to hold down certain buttons, when you power on the printer, to get tests.

Printer only printing headings and only in one colour.

Take a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and rub the back of the cartridge and the back of where your cartridge goes in the printer then take a paper towel and get it wet and push the heads(bottom part) on the wet spot and you should see a thick black line  if not the cartridge is defective
