Well the first thing that you have to keep in mind before reformatting your hard drive is to ensure the backups of all driver devices on your laptop. Since you already reformatted, the best way is to look up the correct drivers for the Acer Aspire. I would start looking at the Acer site. Go to this site and scroll down to the audio driver. http://www.laptop-software.com/acer-software/acer-aspire-8730-notebook-windows-7-drivers/

Hi, My Acer Travelmate 5720 w Windows XP gives Blue Screen errors after updating drivers. I have rolled back all drivers, cleaned the registry, ran A/V and malware programs but still have the same problem....

Please visit www.pcpitstop.com Open a free account. Have then scan your system. They will give you a comprehensive report on your computer including status of software and drivers. Review the report and take what action you feel you can execute. They do sell some products there ... their service is mostly free. I have had great success using their site and many of their products.

ACER Aspire 5720

Hi All,

We are a workshop in Spain & I have had several problems with "Down grading" to XP. There is essentially one problem which causes an issue with the XP installation & that is if the the BIOS has a "Fixed" sata configuration. By that I mean you cannot change it to some sort of IDE or P-ATA (Symantics). Our current problems are with an Acer 5720 & an HP Pavilion DV9700. The Acer solution is exactly as "kraken3000" had mentioned before:
1. On POST (Powerup). enter BIOS by pressing F2
2. Tab along to the second option "Main"
3. Goto last option "SATA mode" & press enter.
4. From the small selection display select "IDE mode"
5. Save & exit the BIOS. This will then set the SATA mode for XP to be recognise.

DONOT set this back to SATA Mode after you install the XP as it will NOT boot. This setting must be kept untill you "Upgrade" (If ever) to Vista. The HP is another story...

Visit the Acer Panam site & download & install the XP drivers & your good to go...

I hope that this was of help...& good luck folks
