Question about JVC Standard (CRT) Televisions

Open Question

TV (JVC AV-27820) does not turn on. Clicking noise.

I need your help:

My TV set, AV-27820, does not turn on. I could hear a clicking noise once it is plugged into a power outlet. I've searched for solutions on this site with no promising fix due to my lack of knowledge with electronics; however, I am comfortable with soldering if required.

I have also photographed in high definition the board in the TV set. Should you wish to help me, I can send you, via email, these pictures as well as the service manual I found on the Internet. I simply need detailed guidance to resolve the problem.

I am a student without money to fix it or purchase a new one.
Any help is much appreciated.

Im sorry your having this trouble But I cant tell you whats wrong as I havent looked at the set. The problem could be a simple power supply problem or a cold solder connections in the horizontal sweep circuit. If your not a tech this is not a job for an experimenter or tinker . There is hi voltage in these sets even when they are unplugged so you are gonna need to call a pro in to assit you in this repair or geta new one > good Luck

shorted components causes continuous ticking/clicking sound from inside the set! it would really need a shop visit since you have no picture display! if you could trust the service person then it could be worth sending it to a shop!

My JCV 1997 TV will not turn on at all I'm missing the power button on the TV it broke and the remote control will not turn it on its been unpluged for month or so . No flaging light just blank. PLEASE...

Push the power button and hold. Check whether lights are ON.

If OK try whether you can keep the switch permanently in pushed
position. Try some paper stuffed tightly.

Otherwise replace the switch.

In running a dvd as soon as i hit play a large black box appears covering all but 2" of the picture on all sides of the screen...i think it must be a setting but havent been able to figure it out.

This sounds like the text mode of closed caption but don't know why it would only be when playing dvd . Go into the setup menu of your dvd player and see if it has closed casption and if so turn it off. Hope this helps

Will the JVC TV model AV-27820 mfg 1997 become obsolete i n February?

It will still work fine if you have cable or satellite. If you are using an antenna to receive broadcast signal you will need to get a digital converter box from an electronics store like Best Buy. You can get discount coupons from the federal government good for 40 dollars towards the converter. Google "Digital Covnverter Coupon Program" and it should give you a link to the site to apply for up to 2 coupons.

Best wishes

Hi, You may also want to check the Vertical IC. In some units I've worked on, failure or cold solder in the vertical IC triggers protection. Good luck and cheers.
