Question about Holmes Products Cool Mist HM3500 Humidifier
I have a Holmes table top humidifier. The fan blades collect dust and I can't find a way to remove the plastic grill above the blades so I can wipe them clean. No screws-no nothing. Do they just expect me to throw the thing out every year and get a new humidifier? Except for this, the humidifier works well. It's such an obvious problem that I don't understand why a manufacturer would make such a machine except to get the consumer to keep replacing the whole thing. The directions say nothing about the fan. They just tell you how to clean the water tank, the base and where to buy new filters. One more thing. PLEASE, DO NOT TELL ME TO BLOW AT THE BLADES WITH A HAIR DRYER. THAT DOES NO GOOD AT ALL.
I have a Holmes cool-mist One-Touch Humidifier, and you can't reach the blades to clean them, and you can't take the console apart. I finally decided to use two spray bottles and clean and them rinse the Humidifer while holding the console upside down and over a sink. The one bottle you could fill with any mild cleaner plus a lot of water to dilute the cleaner. Maybe dishwashing liquid (not the dishwasher stuff), or a little bit of ammonia, or rubbing alcohol, or vinegar. Spray that on the blades while the machine is upside down, and a lot of sooty dirt drips out. Then rinse with another spray bottle full of plain water. Leave the console upside down on a towel to drip-dry. This is also how you can clean silk flowers that collect dust.
