ONE END OF THE CABLE WILL HAVE A USB CONNECTOR ON IT AND THE OTHER END WILL HAVE A SQAURE BOX HOSE LOOK TO IT, LENGTH WILLNOT MATTER MOST OF THE TIME IT IS 2,4,6,8,10,12 FEET LONG AND ANY LONGER THAN THAT YOU WOULD NEED A REPEEDER IN THE MIDDLE SO YOU WOULDNT LOOSE THE SIGNAL.

Hi, for this model you will want to use a USB cable, it will most likely have a square connector on one end (connects to the printer) and a rectangle connector on the other end (connects to the computer) the phone jack looking thing if for an ethernet cable so you can use it as a network printer.

Printer won't turn off

Check the power supply cords; make sure they are attached properly. If you are using a power strip, surge protector or any other device where the power supply cord is not plugged directly into a wall outlet, bypass them and plug the printer into a wall outlet; see if that changes anything.
If that doesn't work, remove the printer's power cord from the outlet and all the other cables that the printer connects to the computer to.
Wait 5 or 10 minutes for the printer's CMOS and RAM chips to power off completely.
After enough time has elapsed, plug only the printer's power cord into the wall outlet (do not hook up any of the communication cables in e.g. USB, or serial cables, or network cables.)
Then press the power "on" button.

If the error message is gone, power off the printer.
Uninstall the printer and all its programs from the computer.
Do a clean install and follow the procedures of hooking up the printer as though you are installing it for the very 1st time.

You may have to obtain firmware and/or software updates from HP on your specific printer.

You may also have to check with your OS vendor to make sure you have all the updates/service packs on your PC or laptop

I have brought the printer with me to use in our 5th wheel- I am trying to hook up- I have 2 cords- beige cord for printer to computer- power cord -3 round openings- where do I plug in??? There is an open...

I believe you're missing the power supply for the printer. The 3-prong power cord plugs in to the power supply. If you lost that part of the printer, I can only advise you to call Lexmark. They might be able to send you one.

Where does the printer hook up to the computer

You will need to purchase a printer USB cable for this printer. They are relatively inexpensive and can be found at any store with an electronics department. I feel your pain on this issue as I find it very annoying that these peices are extra.

The flat rectangular USB end plugs into an available USB slot on your computer while the more square end plugs into the back of the printer.

Hope this helps!
