Question about Sony KDF-E55A20 55 in. LCD Television
I replaced the thermal fuse about a year ago. The black screen just started. The tv will be on and then just goes black, no sound either. After 30 to 40 seconds, it comes back on. Not gradual, just pops right back. When I tried turning the tv on and off, the I did get the power light blinking red 5 times, then pause, then 5 times, and so on. Then it stopped. I waited a few hours and turned the TV on, and it came on, but then the black screen thing started again. Is it the lamp? Would the lamp cut off the sound too? HELP!!!
What is happening here is that a problem is being detected by protective circuits inside the set and it is shutting down to prevent further damage. Since this recovers after a period of time to "cool down" it is possible that there is a heat sensitive part that is now defective. Without taking measurements inside the set, it wil be near impossible to find the particular problem. The 5 blinks offer a clue however. That will indicate the circuit in which the problem was detected. You do not indicate the age of the set. Is this under warranty? If so, request warranty service and indicate that this is an intermittant problem that will take some investigation. If it is not under warranty, please let me know. I will research the 5 blink code as I don't have the service manual with me at the moment and try to get you more information.
