Question about Epson Printers & Copiers

Open Question

Foam profile - Is this essential or just packaging?

Epson stylus sx600fw - The grey foam in the print area, just in front of the printhead seems to be 'packing'. Am I right?

My concern is that it has carefully shaped holes in it to fit the plastic base on which it rests.

Since my last post the printer curled paper again. So, this time I have removed this grey foam and there really is no further problem!

Try Express Terminals in the UK or your local Epson repair place may have a scrapped one you could beg the foam out of. Failing that why not just leave it out?

SOURCE: foam fell out of printer now printer jams

There are no foams inside the printer for normal operation. Unless this is the one that was inside it during shipping but you were not able to remove it. In any case if you are not having any problems then you are good to go. dont worry about it.

Try this I found it doing a search on your machine, that foam was called a blotter, and it should work without it, good luck

Have a look at:

http://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/sc86__/sc86__ug/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm

If it's a paper jam, look for and remove paper in feed system. If no paper, is the print head properly parked under the right-hand end of the cover? If not, you may have stuck or detached parking mechanism. Come back to me if this is the case for further help.

If it's "internal error", it usually means the waste ink pads need changing. You can overcome this problem temporarily by using the SSC utility - download from

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

and reset the Protection Counter. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation. However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer. A copy of the service manual is available from a number of sellers - just Google "Epson C86 Service Manual". You will often find them
for sale very cheaply on E-Bay.

If you decide to have a go at replacing the ink pads yourself, report back and I will provide further help.

Please rate this advice.

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges?

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc. These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. Don’t waste too much ink in cleaning it.

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

SOURCE: hadn a peice of black/grey foam material fall out

The foam goes across under the printhead and is only there to catch the excess ink when you print a borderless photo. You can print with it out as long as pieces arent caught in the exit rollers that you can push out with an index card.

Error code 5C00 what is this and how do you repair this erroe

Hello,
This error is shown when there is any kind of foreign material or packing material stuck inside the printer which restricting the printhead to move freely. To resolve this issue, please follow the instructions mentioned below:
1) Confirm that the printer is powered off.
2) Disconnect the power cord from the printer or at the wall outlet or both.
3) Open the paper output tray and then lift up the scanning unit cover until it locks into position.
CAUTION: The orange protective tape may prevent you from opening the paper output tray. If that is the case, please refer to the illustration in step 3 to ensure the white foam piece is removed along with the protective tape. skumar_sreen.gif

4) Pull the orange protective tape (A) and remove the white foam (protective material) (B). skumar_sreen.jpg

5) If the the white foam was not removed along with the orange protective tape, check for it on the right, inside the printer. a) With the printer powered off and unplugged, slide the print head carriage to the left. b) Looking inside the printer from the left, locate the white foam in front of the purge area. Note: It is recommended to use a thin latex glove as there may be ink mist on the white foam or surrounding print area. skumar_sreen_0.jpg
c) Cautiously remove the white foam with your hands. Be careful not to touch any other components in the printer.

6) After removing the packing material, look for and remove any other paper debris or foreign objects from the extreme left and right sides of the carriage area.

7) Close the scanning unit cover.

8) Reconnect the power cord and then power on the printer.

All the lights on my Epson Stylus cx4800 are flashing. I have turned it on and off a couple of times.

It has come to the end of it's service life - officially. Basically that means change the ink blotting foam under the print heads and reset it. There is an unofficial reset program that I can confirm works and will restore it to it's former self. Try Googleing 'Epson waste reset utility'.

Printing one colour.

Given the age of the C87 it's likely that you haven't used this printer in a while and/or it's just slowly become clogged over time.

The ink in the C8x series printers is a resin based pigment ink which is very prone to clogging so it's not exactly unusual.

The best way to resolve this is to follow this procedure:
  1. Press the ink button once to get the printhead into the "exchange cartridge" position
  2. Pull the power cord out of the back of the printer
  3. Move the printhead over to the left out of the way
  4. Using a suitable inkjet ink cleaning solution soak the parking pad area where the printhead usually sits (This is a small foam padded area to the far right that sits in line with the printhead).
  5. Move the printhead back over to the right
  6. Leave for 24 hours (Patience is vital... Just leave it alone - see below)
  7. Plug the printer back in and run a single (just ONE) cleaning routine and a nozzle check
  8. If the nozzle check is still showing no colours on the black, cyan and yellow, leave it for an hour then try printing something with a little colour in it. (Sometimes the printer just needs a little rest time to sort itself).
  9. If still not printing properly, repeat steps 1- 8 again (and yes, wait another 24 hours!).

The way this works is that cleaning solution is able to wick up into the printhead nozzles and break down the clog. However it does take time to do this, hence the "be patient" bit :-). Distilled water is not recommended for this printer as the ink is not a water based type so a proper cleaning solution will work much more effectively.

Using this technique I've been able to recover CX6600, C84 and numerous other printers that have been completely clogged and unused for years so it does work.

Hope that helps.

Epson 9600 print head missing numerous nozzels during test print procedure. Tried power clean several times. Do you have a remedy?

You willl probably need to clean the Pump Cap Assy.

You will need a strong flashlight/clip-on lamp to see what you are doing up in the area you are cleaning.

Move the print head to the left side of 9600. (If you need help with this let me know.)

Use a foam tipped swab slightly dampened with warm water to GENTLY wipe around the seal area of the Pump Cap Assy.

DO NOT USE A COTTON TIPPED SWAB !!!

Dip, Blot, & Wipe. Clean the Foam Swab often to wash off the residue it will pick up. Remenber to keep the swab slightly moist - not dripping wet.
---
If this does't help, it generally means that the Print Head is also very clogged with gummy/dried ink.

The Print Head cannot be cleaned without removing the Right Side Cover & then removing the Pump Cap Assy. This removing and cleaning is about a 1.5hr-2hr job for an experienced tech. Anyone with moderate mechanical skills can do it though.

Pump Cap Assy cleaning is usually done BEFORE replacing the Print Head.

If the Print Head cleaning doesn't work then a New Print Head is in order.

Hope this helps ! Good Luck !

Epson Dx5050 blocks any printing once it has claimed that any ink cartridge needs replacing. How can I overcome this so it keeps printing with the warning, like Canon printers do, until the cartridge...

Unfortunately you cannot override this behaviour without installing a valid cartridge in the printer.

Epson printers do not have this sort of functionality as it would leave the printhead open to damage and foam clogging.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Prints a black line down the my CD

check your plattern foam thingy (not the official term but close) thats the foam membrane that absorbs ink on boarderless printing etc, could be that the cd tray is acting on the foam if is a little lifted or displaced. but just a thought, never seen it happen like this before.

Two springs loose in Epsom stylus 780 printer

If the issue persists, it appears as though the hardware itself is malfunctioning and will require service. You can take the unit to an Epson Customer Care Center for repair, as your product is no longer within its one-year warranty period (from the original date of purchase). These service centers have their own rates and policies. If you can reply with the zip, I can give details abt the nearest repair place. =)
