Hi dave, Its nothing you have done! It will need the carbon brushes changed in the motor as they have got low. The arcing is caused by the brushes not touching the com properly. Just change them and it will be all good.....

Ok well then if that the case then you might have the wash windings in the motor on there way out! Then you will need to replace the motor! Check the conections on the heater as this can cause a low neutral return on the motor side.

Can the bearings in a hotpoint hv8b593g be renewed or is it a sealed drum

Don't know this precise machine but all I have worked on previously have not been sealed, the main outer drum normally comes out of the back after removing the drive belt and pully and unhooking from the suspension then separate the plastic outer drum from its two halves remove the inner drum and knock out the bearing, replace all in reverse order.

Hotpoint 1200 wd62n banging noise when loaded but ok when its empty ?

There are many reasons that this could be noisy...

When you turn the drum (quickly) when it's empty does it rumble? Bearings, drum support or motor bearings.

If it sounds like a pneumatic drill when filled and spinning it could be drum support, bearings, balance weight or suspension.

These are not an exhaustive list but the usual suspects.

Can the drum bearing be renewed

Hello, W/D here.

Of course it can! If someone can put it together, you can get it apart.

Here's a link to another site where this problem has already been tackled.
http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=22035
One thing I liked about this site is that there was an ad for bearings on the page, and might help you also. Bearings are also available at a source called Motion Industries and WW Grangier. Hotpoint vendors may have a supply on hand as well. All you'll need is the number stamped onto the bearing race to get a suitable replacement. Sales shops that also provide service may tell you that the bearings and tub assemblies have to be sold as a unit, as the bearings may be rubber coated, but this isn't true. You can purchase any bearing required from the sources listed, or by performing a google search with the bearing number and selecting a source near you. A word to the wise; replace both bearings!
Best regards, --W/D--

Hotpoint WF220P has become very noisy during spin, especially at high revs. Can it be worn brushes or motor, or bearings? Otherwise all is OK.

Remove drive belt, and spin drum by hand, if it feels rough or noisy, then the main drum bearings are worn.
If no noise from drum, could be a motor prob.
Please rate ,my solution.
Thanks.

Drum Does not Rotate

the carbon dust that you mention ? on the drivebelt will//may have come from the electric motor carbon brushes especially as you sy machine is 4 yrs old you can diy inspect the brushes by removing the rear panel to access motor unplug the socket from motor then slacken belt and remove belt from pully remove the motor you will see location f brushes x2 opposit each other and normally held in position ont armature of motor by coiled pressure clip like watch spring and brush has wire embedded in it and other end a push on terminal? when these brushes wear down normally the fist indication is fast spin slows then eventually no rotation of drum? over a period of time? SO easy diy to renew brushes if as above worne down /not contacting armature? cost approx £5 here in n/west uk worth investigating and diy saving ££££s $$$$s? and i hope you have good luck hope this helps/inspires you?

Hotpoint wd420

if the drum is tight to turn ,then the main bearings have probably seized, or their could be something fast in the drum. Remove belt, and try to turn the drum by hand , it shuold be free with no resitance.
If it is noisy or feels rough, then the bearings have gone.

Drum Bearings replacement

This is Mogsey above, I have now renewed the bearings in my Zanussi Jetsystem 1600, Model FJD1666W. Had a man in to help. It really is a two man job and I put my back doing this with him. The bearings were much larger than previously encountered. Very! basically you have get out the residue water, release the door seal and (pipe attached) spit the m/c casing, unclip all hoses attached to drum, unclip all drum wiring ,remove belt (note position) remove motor &, lay to one side, withdraw nylon pins from shock absorbers, Look for and remove the little earthing cable set just inside the pulley rim. Carefully release drum/case supporting springs (mark positions top and bottom) and, drop drum/case onto some blocks and lift/pull/take out (really needs two people) (minding other modules). Split drum/case ring of bolts, remove front half (careful here not to damage the heater). take half containing drum outside, lay drum face down and use a drift to hit the socket headed screw securing pulley hard to shake up the taper. Remove this screw (needs good quality allen key) and use wedges to the force off the drum drive pulley. Support drum casing on blocks or put drum on its side, support the drum if on its side and use a heavy drift and hammer to knock through the drum spindle. Careful now to avoid grating hands on the sharp drum holes. With drum now removed place the casing drive end up (ensuring protuding heater is clear of the ground!) put a large bolt (head down) inside the first bearing and rest it on the edge of the inner bearing. Carefully working round the inner bearing edge use a hammer and the bolt head as a drift to knock out the inner (the larger of the two bearings and inturn the drum seal) (note seal postion). Turn over the casing and knock out the outer bearing from inside the drum casing. Clean all and check condition of spider/spindle & renew if damaged. Fit the new outer bearing then the new inner followed by the seal. Dig out the old and renew the (green) O ring seal between the drum casing halves. Replace all, but give a quick test run before replacing casing to ensure belt is positioned correctly. The job would have cost £115 which I think is well worth paying someone to do.
