Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

We have a Samsung Big Screen (not plasma or flat screen) about 36+ inches in diameter. There is a large circular button at the center bottom of the front of the tv, that usually flashes green and make a tweeting noise when it comes on. (It says lamp, timer, reset... but you only press it once for on or off). Now the screen doesn't work, no picture, and the the lamp button flashes along with the others. We're told that a repair visit (too big to transport) will be cost prohibitive, and no $$ to get a new tv. Is this a "lamp" problem" that I can fix myself??

Sorry the problems u have is not for hobbiest or amature to do.High voltage Deflection board areas. This problems, must have experience tv tech to troubleshoot and replaced parts or boards require for the tv.Could be extensive repairs or just requiring test and replaced some of many small capacitors, resistors, transistors and ICS.Have to do major troubleshooting though.Must get priced quotes by many big screen tv shops, than u decide, which to give the job to.

Sony Wega projection tv with cirlce emblazened in center of scree

The clown face you see is the cap that the repair man (clown) did not remove from the new optical block he/she installed. The optical Block will have to be either removed from the TV so that the cap can be removed OR a crafty individual could take the screws out from around the screen frame and mirror cover and pop it out using a broom handle with a wad of duck tape on the end. In any case, this is mistake that can easily happen (I have done it), but the picture should have been verified before it was returned to you. Make them fix it in your home. I hope this was helpful, best wishes.

Spots on screen in front of picture

This could be an issue with your DMD board or your Video Board. Go to the menu, if the white spots show on the menu, the issue is with your DMD board, but if they don't show, the issue is with your Video board.

We are trying to change projector lamb on a soy 42 inch LCD tv. we could not find the place where it should be plugged. thank you

The reason why this tv it doesn't looks as having a lamp cover is because has a front panel first to deal with. identify first this one to release it:

the front cover is easy to identify because is big and the power button at the center identify this big part. this big plastic 10 inches width and it is large as the tv all the way east to west in the bottom of the set. It is attach to the set with two screws. this two screws are find in the extreme of this front cover but in the back side. They looks as gray dimes (coins) actually you can use one dime to unscrew them. Ready!
  • when the screws are release (not all the way out just release) is not the only thing attaching it to the body
  • note: Sony Co. in this front cover thought to clip it with three 1 inch diameter clips you can locate them with great deal of imagination: The location of them is this: if you trace an imagine line: trace it starting on the power button as center but something as 30 inches left and another 30 inches right outside + another immediately down but this time vertical line down as 3 inches down,
  • "this is half of the job"
  • releasing this front cover is hard and kind of puzzle because you take the front cover from top side towards you (watch your fingers is really hard to make this operation you need a strong fingers) note: the bottom is trapped with another inner plastic obstruction. Now with this clips in your mind try to release this clips (this clips make a weird sound when are release something as you already broke the panel. don't panic)
  • Until here the panel was release and in your hands put a side.
the lamp is covered with little door 3 inches square left side of the power button called lamp cover. use again your dime to release this last screw holding the lamp cover. inside you find the lamp.

The biggest chance is that your plasma screen is shot but just for a second opinion get it checked out at a service center if it's under validity... This is a known issue n unfortunately no solutions...

I have a 50 inch big screen hdtv and i am moving i want to know can i lay my tv down flat?

Yes you can lay it down flat on its screen just make sure it is padded so the screen doesnt get scratched. I transport projection units this way all the time even DLPs however do not transport LCD or plasma units in this manner as thats not recomended.
