The gas is blowing like a torch . If it were to stay on any longer it would melt the plastic and burn the clothes....Sheesh.

Tumbles but does not dry

When you put your wet cloths in the dryer close the door. You should then turn on the dry cycle you wish, not the fluff option as there will be only air and gas dryer will not heat the cloths. Wait 30 ~ seconds after the dryer is turned on and listen for the gas to ignite and begin warming and drying the cloths. If you hear no bump sound like the ignition of the gas, then you have an ignition issue. It will require replacing the ignitor. All the best and good luck. Hope this helped.

When the dryer runs there is never any heat. could this be a thermal coupler issue? what else might it be? thought it would be a coupler since i never see any flames when the dryer tries to ignite.

These appliances are equipped with a burner assembly with electronic igniters. The following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

I know the link is for a gas range, but the burner assembly functions are nearly identical, as well as, the type igniters used.

If you are having ignition problems it is probably a simple matter of a weak or bad igniter. The burner assembly will ignite automatically as long as the gas valve, igniter coils and igniter are all functioning properly. It can take up to 90 seconds for the burner to ignite. As the igniter ages, you may experience longer ignition times.

You can view an illustrations of your burner assembly at appliancepartspros.com, pcappliancerepair.com and searspartsdirect.com. If the model number you posted this question under is correct, the replacement part number for a new igniter is one of the following:

4391996 (Series 10)
33002789 (Series 60)

Which part number you use will depend on your SERIAL NUMBER. If the first two numbers is less than "60", use the series 10 part. If the first two numbers is "60" or higher, use the series 60 part.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Frigidaire model # FG01442ESO, is not drying.

I would replace the gas valves on the dryer. They are located just before the igniter on the dryer. Make sure you unplug the unit and turn off the gas before doing this repair. Good luck

Dryer start up fine then the gas turns off as ignitor continues

Hi Jim. Perhaps this will help you.

The burner assembly consists of the gas valve, the igniter and sensor, and the thermostats. The gas supplied to the appliance is turned on and off by the gas valve, as follows:

  • First--when you close the dryer door, set the timer, and press or turn the Start button--the motor starts. When it reaches full speed (in about a second) a switch on the motor turns on, which allows the electricity to flow through a simple thermostat to one side of the gas valve.

  • The gas valve then sends power to the igniter, which glows bright orange.

  • As heat and light from the igniter warm up a sensor that's right next to the igniter, the sensor circuit opens, then supplies power to the other side of the gas valve. This completes the circuit and opens the valve.

  • Once the valve opens, the gas rushes out and the igniter ignites it. As the gas burns, it keeps the sensor warm, which keeps the gas flowing.

  • When the dryer reaches the pre-set drying temperature, a simple thermostat turns off the flow of electricity to the gas valve and therefore turns off the gas.

  • When the temperature in the dryer falls about 20 to 30 degrees, the thermostat again allows the electricity to flow through to the gas valve, and the cycle starts over.

If you selected the Automatic setting, the cycle continues until the clothes are dry, then the timer advances and turns the dryer off.

If you selected a timed setting, the cycle continues until the time has expired, then the timer turns off the dryer

Dryer gets warm at first but then cools down

Check the hi limit thermostat and the cycle thermostat. They may be opening too soon.
Remove the connecting vent on the rear of the dryer exhaust and see if it cycles normally.
The flame sensor may be malfunctioning.
If the gas valve coils are good, these are the only other possibilities.

make sure that your vent is not plug up can you go outside your house and feel good air coming out the vent when the dryer is turn on if so the only other things it could be is the coils that sit on the ignotor assmebly or the high limit termistat is not working properly the coils are little black circle coils that sit in the ignitor assmly should have a metal braket across the top of them holding them in you can check resistance on these coils if you have an meter

After first Ignition cycle igniter stays on too briefly to open gas valve gas.

Valid Most likely the problem with your dryer is the coils for the gas valve. Remove the access door (on the bottom right side on the front panel) and you can see the gas valve with three coils on top of it. They are coming as a kit with complete instruction. The part number for this kit is AP2669614.You can buy it here http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=SrmyP8LkIos&offerid=92089.542517043&type=10&subid=
