My graphics card does not show up on my Device Manager

I have a Compaq Presario SR5010NX 1 GB ram. I went to the Device Manager to disable to on-board display, on my bios I told it to access the pci-e, install drivers, and still it won't appear on my Device Manager. "Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Controller 0 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)" Is the on-board display that I disabled and it the only display shown under "Display Drivers".

I had just run into the same problem while installing my new graphics card earlier today. This is what I did to fix it:

1. Uninstall the new driver for the new card, if you can, in control panel if it installed.

2. Reinstall the new driver.

3. Go to Device Manager and UNINSTALL, not disable, UNINSTALL the on-board card. Don't worry this won't kill anything. It will ask you to restart your computer. Click yes.

4. While the computer is restarting and on the shut down screen for windows unplug the monitor cord from the onboard card and plug it into the new card.

5. Wait for windows to boot up and load the new drivers. It should be working with the correct drivers.

If it takes more than 8 minutes for anything to come on the screen(icons, login screen, etc.) reboot your computer again.

>Install the ATI video card drivers (you probably did this, but....)
>You may have to disable the integrated video on the motherboard (if you have it) in the BIOS setup screen.
>Make sure the new card is seated properly, take it out and reinstall it. This is one of the most common problems.
>Make sure the VGA or DVI pins in the monitor video cable are not bent or damaged. Another very common problem.
>Swap monitor with a different one; if you get video your monitor is bad or there are some settings need changing.

How do i find out witch display driver to disable so i can install new video card

You don't need to disable any driver, unplug, use ESD protection, install Graphics Card, move the monitor cable to the new card,(you may have to boot on the old monitor connection and install driver), install the driver for the new card and reboot plug into the new card. Do your windows updates to obtain the latest driver. You can open the Device Manager, open Display adapters and disable the Intel graphics adapter. Is it a PCI or AGP Graphics Card? Remember: with a Aftermarket Graphics Card it requires more Power/Watts, you should consider a PSU upgrade. You didn't post the Make, Model Graphics Card, usually there is a Min. Power Spec. for the card listed on the box.

The sticker says my video card has 1 gb ddr2. but when i open dxdiag it says 251mb. can help me? i want to play games

Hi johnpaulanq3,

1. Go to your bios by pressing delete or F2 key. 2. Go to Chipset tab. 3. Go to North Bridge enter, IGD currently Enabled press enter and select Disabled. 4. Press F10 to Save and Exit keeping your changes.

The set up above is a sample BIOS settings for Biostar H55 mother board, used as a reference to show how to disable the integrated graphics card. it might be a conflict to your 1GB DDR2 GPU.
additional Initiate Graphic Adapter This item allows you to select which graphics controller to use as the primary boot device. Options: PEG/PCI (Default) / IGD / PCI/IGD / PCI/PEG / PEG/IGD

as you can see most mother boards now a days can work well with integrated GPU and discrete GPU so it's up to you if you want to disable the IGD or same.
If you want to verify the running GPU's right click on My Computer, Properties, Device Manager, Click Display Drivers and see what GPU's are running.

Hopefully this information helps.

Willing to help if problem persist, just give more details or specifications.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Compaq Presario V6500 has on board graphics card a separate card be installed, are there any options.

You can install a better graphics card in the AGP slot. You most likely need to disable the on board graphics card from the BIOS.
