Hi, did you run the upgrade adviser, before running xp set up? this will tell you any upgrades or possible problems you may have. it is probably a hardware compatibility, as the aging p3 systems would have. if you can, go back with the older operating system, then run upgrade adviser, you may be able to correct he issue, i still have a pentium 2 450,that i put xp on years ago-it runs great for a p2-so it is not impossible to do.also did you do a quick or full format in the fat or ntfs, do full, and try the fat format for that p3. hope this helps you, good luck! need more help post again.

Safe startup programs to disable?

Press F8 during boot to access Safe Mode.
To disable startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when you initiate.

You can also use a 3rd party application like TuneUp Utilities.

Windows not loading, screen saver works!

Try restarting in safe mode by hitting the F8 key during the boot.

You now have the option of:

  • Disabling startup programs from loading in the first place. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig > Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically.
  • Use System Restore and rolling back to a earlier date. It can be found in help. F1 key loads help.
  • Uninstalling problem software. Usually the last thing installed prior to problem.

Install seagate expansion

New drives have to be readied for use. Try Start > Run (aka Search in Win 7) type dskmgmt.msc. Look for your drive there. It should be without a drive letter. Right clicking will give you the options of initializing, creating disc partitions, and assigning logical drives. If this seems a little daunting. A wizard should load. If not there is refresh icon on the tool bar. You may want break down the 1TB down to a few partition because of the large size.

Laptop powers on, but windows doesnt load

Boot PC from Windows XP installation CD you will be ask to instal fresh copy or repair existing installation - go for "fresh copy" software will analyze you PC and try to find your previous copy of Win XP you will be ask again to repair copy of your existing Windows Xp now go for "Repair" option so installation software restore all Windows files and will keep all your settings*.
This solution is only temporary because IE 7 and 8 will no longer work after restoring - backup all your data and instal fresh copy of Win XP after all and always keep Your Backup up to date!!

Asus P3V 4X DIP Switch problem

Hello. This is more a software related issue. If it were from the processor itself you couldn't power on or received weird error during Power ON Self Check. If the processor was overcloaked windows will indead try to start but fail. Therefore, if you know you haven't overcloaked the processor you should try to reinstall a clean copy of windows by booting the computer with the windows installation CD. Hope this helps, good luck and always remember to rate the solutions received from this site :)
