Question about Acer (91.42R37.001) CD-RW/DVD-ROM (Combo) Burner

1 Answer

I can't read any of my cd or dvd with my Acer Extensa 4420-5963. I put the cd in and the light blinks like it's going to read it, but nothing happens, also there is no icon for it in My Computer. When I go to the device manager I get this message "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I just wanted to post a reply regarding a missing dvd/cd in the ?My Computer? & in the ?Device Manager?. I bought my Acer5610z in September of 2007, about March of 2008 I was unable to use my dvd/cd because it was not being recognized by the computer. This was very frustrating as I like to back up files often. I have tried EVERYTHING! 1)I have tried to mess with the registry as suggested by several sites.. NOTHING 2)I have tried to uninstall any applications which would mess with my player such as ITunes..etc.. NOTHING 3)I would have tried to restore my settings back to factory default but I cannot remember my freaking password for erecovery.. So this was not, nor is it still an option for me. (Anyone who reads this and knows a lil trick for me to fix that issue please feel free to let me know. thanks.. Anyways.. I found this website and got very excited because I seen all the great comments and thought to myself, now maybe after about a year (give or take)I might be able to burn cds again! You will never guess how I fixed this issue!!! *I first took out several screws on the back of my laptop..scared I was gonna mess up my comp.. but didn?t.. whew.. For the life of me I could not find a way to access the dvd disk drive to ensure things were plugged in properly. (I never messed with a laptop yet) I couldn?t find it.. Then my lover found a site online which detailed how to remove the dvd/cd drive to ensure it is plugged in all the way, sound scary? meh.. Turns out all you have to do is eject the disk (use paperclip into hole) and you can gently pull on the metal that you see holding the edge of the dvd player. Pull it all the way out (its a plug n play so don?t worry about cords)on my Aspire 5610z anyways CHECK YOUR SYSTEM DETAILS TO ENSURE IT DOES NOT COME WITH CORDS) Replace the dvd/cd back into the slot and press firmly but not too firm to break it (you want to make sure its plugged in all the way) Reboot.. Voiiiiiila! xoxox I looked forever for this stupidly simple alternative to messing with the registry etc..

If the drive is clicking, it is probably broken inside and should be replaced. The link above will show you how to do this and should also have links to replacement parts for your computer

CD/DVD PLAYER NOT SPINNING

Try restarting. If it doesn't work, data cable of the drive (CD/DVD Player) may need to be reseated (pull out and plug back in) inside the computer. You may want to call manufacturer or a local tech (if not in warranty) if you don't know how to (just to be safe).

My acer Extensa 5620Z DVD/CD ROM drive is detected as USB mass storage that provides internet(Modem). When I remove the internet modem, the CD ROM is not listed in My computer. When I put CD or DVD in it...

That is a Vista problem with ACER. Delete the reference in device manager and restart and let the comp reco0gnize and reinstall ...just follow the screen instructions.

There is a registry setting that needs deleting but only if this doesn't work.

Acer extensa 5620 notebook dvd-cd rom doesn't read my dvd. i think i uninstalled driver. how can i find dvd writer driver for my notebook?

go to device manager under System Properties. Locate DVD/CD Drives, expand it, select your drive, right click and then left click on properties, select the General tab and check the state of the device IT SHOULD indicate the device is working properly, if so or if not, select the Driver tab unomstall the driver, reboot, see if Windows will reinstall the driver as it should recognize the device as a new drive. If not return to the device manager and reinstall the driver.

My acer extensa 2300 dvd-rw drive wont work?

Try this; Goto > DEFAULT PROGRAMS > SET YOUR DEFAULT PROGRAMS > and check the settings for each media application you have on your system.
If you just use Windows Media Player then do this aswell > open windows media player, > TOOLS > OPTIONS and go through the various tabs and check the BURN & RIP options
If They dont work check that the device is installed correctly and is enabled! You can do both of these by going to CONTROL PANEL > DEVICE MANAGER.
Scroll down the list till you find DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES.
Right click on the Driver and click properties, you will then be able to varify the two.
