Many laptop computers come equipped with a small web camera assembly mounted above the LCD screen. Like any other camera, these webcams use a lens to take pictures. Over time, it is possible for this lens to become dirty, especially if you have touched it a few times. You can quickly clean the lens and get the unit back to taking crisp pictures.
1.Take a microfiber cloth and gently press it to the lens of your laptop's web camera.
2.Gently rub the lens of the web camera with the microfiber cloth. Be sure that you cover the entire surface of the web camera's lens.
3.Open your web camera program when you are finished and take a picture to test the quality of the webcam. If it is still blurry, close the program and repeat steps 1 and 2 until the web camera is no longer blurry.
Position your webcam where you want it. Most people choose to position it directly on top of the computer monitor, because this area is closest to the face and provides the most intimate view of the subject. Set up an account with Yahoo!. This is a site that allow webcam users to communicate with one another. To set up an account, click on "Create an Account" on the main screen. You are asked to enter your name, birthdate, a screen name and a password that you will use for the account Download Yahoo! Messenger by going to the Yahoo! Messenger website and clicking "Download." Click "Save" to save the Messenger program to your computer. Wait for the program to download. Click "Run" to install Messenger on your computer. A Yahoo! Messenger icon will be installed on your computer's desktop. Double-click on the icon, and Yahoo! Messenger loads. Log in to your account by typing in your selected screen name and password and clicking "Submit." Connect your webcam with Yahoo! Messenger by clicking on the "Create and Update" tab on your Yahoo! Messenger software. Choose "Site tools" and "Webcam." Select "Start Your Webcam." Your webcam is now connected to your Yahoo! Messenger software, and you are ready to communicate with others by using your webcam. Use your webcam. Select "Webcam Upload" and "Broadcast" on Yahoo! Messenger. A webcam window will appear on your computer screen. To share what you are seeing on your webcam with other Yahoo! Messenger users, click on "Chat" and type in the screen name of the user you wish to communicate with. Click "Submit." A new window will open to chat with the other user. Click on the video icon on your chat window to allow the other user to see your webcam. To continue or stop broadcasting, either keep the Webcam window open or close it to stop broadcasting.
Before you can use your webcam, you have to install it. Installation means running any setup software that came on a disc with it, and plugging it in to a USB port (unless it's built in to your laptop or something).
You need to know if your webcam is installed. To find out, open "My Computer". If it's installed, it'll be right there as part of "My Computer". If you open it, you should be able to see it working. If it's not doing this for you, then you need to focus on getting it installed.
If the webcam is working, then it becomes a facility that's available to programs on your computer. What that means is, if you use a program such as Skype for making phone calls, that program can use the webcam to show the other person your face. You don't need to do anything special, if your webcam is installed, Skype will find it. This should apply to any other application that uses a webcam.
If you're not sure what you're doing, perhaps you've got the webcam working, but you don't realise it because you haven't chosen an application that can use it. It's like installing speakers, but not playing any music yet ;-)
Either choose your own application, or take my suggestion of Skype.
sian_goldfin, Have you loaded the easy share software to the computer prior to connecting for the first time? Windows is funny about that so first reload the software (uninstall it if you must) then shut down the computer then restart it. (assuming Windows XP) Make sure you can open the program without the camera attached. Fill out and register it then exit the program, attach the connector and you should see that the camera is recognized and the software should restart and then you should be able to transfer your photos into the album or folder option of your choice. Just check the installation instructions to make sure the program is off before you connect the camera. Early versions only worked when it was started. randy320sgi
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.
With the camera focus away from press the left curved button to record video. To use as a webcam hook the usb cable to your computer, and open the software that came with your computer. Press that same button and in the software you will see the webcam. Or you can use your chat program to access the webcam.
