SOURCE: Ariens sierra 1440G belt configuration

Hi, you may have more than one problem. There should be one belt from the mower deck going to the electric clutch pulley which is on the engine shaft. On the shaft there are two pulleys, one belt comes from the mower deck, and the other comes from the transaxle pulley. check to see if your belts are in the right areas.

If this doesn’t work for you, please write back. Thanks,

The most common cause of this is the drive belt is worn. If you remove the cover (usually plastic) in the middle of the snow thrower and look at the belt closest to the blower assembly. This is the blower drive belt. (Your operators manual will show you the location and how to remove the cover if you are unfamiliar with your snow blower)
With the engine not running, have someone depress the drive lever and check the belt. You should only be able to depress the long side 1/2 inch or less. More than that the belt has stretched and needs to be replaced. On some older blowers you can adjust the tension pulley, but most made in the last 15 years, you can't.
The belt may be frayed on the edges or glazed causing it to slip (it is shiny on the sides of the belt)
You can get parts (the new belt) through your local Ariens dealer or jackssmallengines.com

Have an Ariens Max Zoom 60, when engage the mowing deck the engine loads up and RPM's drops way down" Have tightened and loosened belt, what else can I Try?

Something in the mower blade drive is binding up. That puts a drag on the engine and causes the slow down in RPM.

Fix ariens snowblower 520 dies when engaging the auger lever

Your front end is jammed. Its either frozen or there is a rock or something jamming it up. Before you start engine reach down chute and turn back impeller that throws the snow out of blower. Should turn freely. when its free its fixed. You will probably need a new belt.

Auger does not engage on Ariens Model 924121 sno- Thro

first check shear pins in the auger ( try to turn big auger by hand, engine off)
then if they are good then try to turn impeller by hand, engine off
youll need to turn it a few times before the larger ones turn, but thats what you want
if they dont turn then you have sheared the gear box gears
be sure belts are good tooo

Wheels losing power on Ariens 5520 snowthrower

i would open the bottom access panel and tighten the tension on the drive belt. i had a simailar problem with my 5520, it wasn't my wheel drive, but my thrower. it would throw snow intally, but stop as soon as it got in deep snow. when i opened the panel, i noticed the the tension on the belt was really loose. so i pushed the fly wheel close to the belt and tightened the fly wheel..and VIOLA as good as new. hope that helps...

Throw lever to ingage blades and it doesn't engage

either the belt is worn so it is too loose or there is something binding the arm that moves to tighten the belt and not moving far enough to tighten the belt.

Ariens snowblower auger wont turn

Just finished repairing my ariens, 6 years old with aluminum gear box. Same problem encountered. The problem turns out to be the BRONZE gear driven by the worm shaft. Shear bolts did not shear and bronze gear broke about 5-6 teeth. This is why you can move the auger a half turn or so, there are no gears in one area of the gear and as the gear turns to engage the worm drive it will stop. The fix: the cast iron replacement from ariens! About $200 including shipping, got mine from Jack's Small Engine (MD). Fairly easy repair if you are mechanically inclined. Buy yourself a set of roll pin extractors ($20 from Sears), new roll pins, new woodruff key for shaft. You will also probably have to press 2nd stage impeller from shaft with hydraulic press & heat (took mine to my local auto garage). What stinks is ariens seemed to have admitted the design problem with the aluminum gearbox, yet won't help with repair cost! Anyways, I learned a lot about my snowblower for future repair (belt replacement)!
