Started to fill, just let in splash of water and quit; no filling, spinning. I have checked everything the owner manual tells you to and no luck. A few times before I had to tap the lid to get it to work, but now it doesn't work at all.

If it was the bearing it should be leaking water out the bottom! It is more than likely the water pump. The seal in the pump drops down and then makes noise. The pump should be in rear. tilt machine back remove belt then try turning the pump by hand if tight replace.
List price is about $89.99 you can find it on Ebay cheaper
I have an Atlantis myself. There can be several problems. Did you check that the fill hoses in the back are not leaking? Are they tight? There are hoses inside the washer and a pump near the front. I replaced my pump last year and I,m getting ready to replace the thrust bearing assembly (spin issues). Does the washer leak with every load? make sure water is not splashing over the tub when filling. The front panel comes off if you can and leave off and watch to see where water is coming from.
There is an exit hose behind your washer, it has to be maintained a particular height (approx 30inches from ground) before it goes into the standpipe in the wall. The gap in the pipe should not be a tight fit. Another thing that could have occurred is that one of the pipes underneath the washer has come loose; you just have to check these things out. But plug off the mains socket first!
The water fill valve - The water fill valve is a mechanical and electrical part, the coils on the valve need electricity to mechanically open the valve to allow the water to flow into the washer....myth....the washer pumps water into itself...no, it does not. The fill valve opens and the house water pressure pushes the water into the washing machine. No cold water or no hot water - The fill valve has two coils, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. It is possible that one of the coils can fail and you loose that filling ability. If the cold water coil quits, the hot will still work and during warm fill you will get hot water only and during a cold fill you will get no water at all. If the hot coils quits, you will still have cold water fill, cold water only on a warm setting and no water on a hot fill setting. You can No cold water or no hot water - The fill valve has two coils, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. You can test a fill valve live for 120 volts, power to a fill valve coil and no fill = a bad fill valve. You can also test the coils for continuity, no continuity = a bad fill valve. Some Maytag washers have a fuse in the fill valve circuit, if this fuse let go the washer will not fill. Fill valves can also from time to time stick open and not stop filling. If you have to shut off the fill valves to stop the water from filling in the washer, you have a bad fill valve and you will have to replace it.
Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.
GO TO www.repairclinic.com ENTER YOUR MODEL NUMBER AND SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN AND CLICK THE RED 100 THEN LOOK FOR PART NUMBER 1042142 THIS MAY BE THE PROBLEM. IT SAYS A WORN BEARING WILL CAUSE SLOW OR NO SPIN. YOU MAY HAVE NOT NOTICED SLOW SPIN TILL NOW BUT I'D SAY CHANGE THAT AND YOU SHOULD BE GOD AGAIN GOOD LUCK
the problem is that your pressure switch is not working properly. if you take the screws out of the back of the head you will find the pressure switch. first unplug the washer then undo the hose from pressure switch. blow trew the hose, then blow into the pressure switch if you hear the pressure switch click then re assemble and try again put on small load and watch if fills almost to the top or over flows replace pressure switch
Probably a bad water valve!
If you can find it and take it out yourself and call a parts store and they have it remember to take the part with you and that it matches or the parts store salemans verifies that it's ok to use as a replacement!
# Balance the load # Level the machine # Inspect the water pump for a blockage # Inspect the coupling # Inspect the transmission # Adjust the drive belt tension # Check the motor bearings # Check the drum brakes
CHECK your stand pipe hasn't fell over (the one the drain hose goes to when emptying)If not,Either the pressure switch is broke or there is a hole or split in the pressure switch rubber hose. This switch stops the water when it reaches required level.
