Question about HP Photosmart 2710 All-In-One InkJet Printer
It says,''Carriage Jam. Open Door, Clear carriage jam and then press OK to continue.''
We have done this and nothing seems to be jammed.
The encoder strip may also be dirty, this causes the printer to believe that the carriage moves less than it actually does and tries to compensate by moving the carriage even further - slamming into the left side of the printer as a result.
Carefully leaning the encoder strip with a lint-free cloth wetted with luke warm water (it should not drip!) can fix this problem.
If the carriage stays in the middle of the printer and doesn't move, the carriage drive belt may be broken. Usually this is not replaced so the printer unfortunately has to be scrapped. But contact your local HP support for further advice.

Mine did the same thing and I just cleaned the white strip with a warm cloth and it was fixed!
Try it before you throw your printer out the window! DB
