Go to dell.com. follow technical support updates. It will ask u what type model etc. Just follow the pop-ups. There was a suggest update for my Vostro laptop a recommended BIOS update. With Vista u have to save to the desk top and then right click it and run as an adminsistrator

You need to change the battery. It sees to be defective if it gives that message. Is your laptop under warranty? If yes, then take it to the place you have bought it and have the battery replaced.

How to solve the "Battery Plugged in not charging"

Battery Plugged in not charging and not detected solution I have a Dell Vostro 1510 laptop, and when i have the battery charger plugged in, the battery icon says "10% available (plugged in, not charging)", and if i pull out the cord, the laptop shuts down straight away. Can this be fixed, and if so, how? I bought this laptop new around 6 months ago. The detail info below:
plugged-in-not-charging.jpg The Battery didn't charge or detect being plugged in also caused by four reasons:
  • 1. The laptop battery failed
  • 2. The Adapter failed (can not charge the battery)
  • 3. The motherboard charging electric circuit failed (many caused by short damage). You can view more info here: Dell Motherboard Problem
  • 4. The laptop bios is too old to recognize the battery
After I checked my battery and adapter and confirm they are good. Then I try to repair it by myself.. My Latitude E6400 battery was fixed by myself.
The first solution :I search in the google: Repairman from another site suggested that while the computer is on and plugged in, to unplug the adapter and then plug it back in again. To check the computer can started charging.
So I remove the laptop battery from the laptop and left the AC cord connected, booting it up on the power cord alone until I was able to boot into Windows 7, at which point I then put the laptop battery back into the computer while it was still on. This worked and while a tad unsafe for most people, I wouldn’t recommend you use this idea unless you absolutely had to, that is, if there was no other choice.
The Second Solution: You can download the newest BIOS from dell.com and then flash the bios. But I do not want to update Bios, So I use another way to make the Power manager system to recognize my battery :)
I open up my laptop Device Manager (usually a right click on your Computer/My Computer) and remove all Dell inspiron 6400 battery related devices from the Device Manager. Then after you’ve done that, right click again and select “Scan for Changes”, which should reinstall the proper services and allow for your laptop to charge again. See the more info in the image below.
remove-battery.png If this also can not solve the problem, I suggest you send the laptop to Dell to repair the Laptop motherboard.

Dell Xps 15 Laptop Battery Not Charging

If your battery will not charge, you need to run a test on some components on the laptop. The battery, the charger and the laptop itself. Once you detect the faulty conponent then you replace it with a new one.

To test the battery:
1.Power off the laptop,
2.Take out the battery,
3.Insert it in another laptop,
4.Check of it will charge,

If the battery holds a charge there, then it means the problem is not from the battery, but if it does not hold a charge, then it means the battery is defective and need to be replaced with a new one.

To test the charger:
1.Unplug the charger from the present laptop,
2.Connect it to another laptop to see if it will charge.

If it charges the laptop, then it means the charger is alright, and if it does not charge the laptop, then it means the charger is bad and need to be replaced.

To test the laptop:
1.Turn off the laptop,
2.Disconnect your present charger,
3.Remove your present battery pack,
4.Insert a well tested battery into the laptop,
5.Connect a well tested charger to the laptop.

If it powers on, then it and charges, then it means the laptop is working fine, but if it does not charge, then it means the connection port of the laptop is bad.Hope this information was helpful.

No battery detected

LOL, good ole Vista. I would never discharge my battery once I got it charged. I know the instructions say that, but I just never do it. Sounds like your battery is defective. Send it back.

your HDD may be corrupted, re-installing windows vista is one option. Your best bet is if you have/ can obtain a copy of windows vista run setup and try the repair wizard in the windows vista setup, the wizard automatically finds errors and missing files and replaces them therefore solving any errors in your HDD. you can also try to use the recovery wizard from your recovery disc. best of luck

I have a Dell Inspiron 1318 and at first it said plugged in and not charging, now it says that no battery is detected. What are some troubleshooting that I can do

Try checking the connection between your battery and your laptop. Removing and reseating the battery generally solves this. However, if it doesn't, it may indicate that your battery has failed. There are many sellers that sell laptop batteries on ebay. Just purchase a new one and plug it in. Good luck!

I recently bought a Dell replacement battery from a non-Dell website from Amazon for my Dell Studio 1558 but it says that it won't charge because Dell cannot recognize it. Is there a way to solve this...

Your ac adapter is just a charger to charge the laptop and it does not have anything to do with 3rd party battery. You need genuine battery to make it work. Third party batteries generally lack the logic circuit that completes the battery sensor circuit - the only solution is a Dell battery. If they are claiming it will work than they need to help you or refund your money. Hope this helps.

A few months ago my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop started saying that my battery could not be detected. I bought this laptop new in October 2007 and did not extend my warranty. I bought a new battery and...

Normally the message means that the battery is bad and needs to be replaced. There is a chance the new battery you got was defective and went bad before its time.

The motherboard can be the problem, although it is not common for this to be the case.

I would try one more battery before thinking about a new motherboard, a new battery is under a $100 where a new mobo is several hundred, and usually this is a sign of a bad battery. If you disconnect the ac adapter and it stays on then it is using the battery, although it is reporting that it cannot see a charge. I would guess the battery malfunctioned and is not being able to be read by the laptop.

Try looking it up in the power options menu in the control panel. There must be some battery settings you can check.

Reduced Battery Working Time Problem

May be the battery life has been reduced due to overcharging so replacing the battery will solve the problem or try to run the laptop in minimal mode setings (display).
