Question about Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Just bought the Philips 9P6034C 60 in. rear projection, used. The picture is a bit hazy. The buyer told us that we just need to "have the guns put to it". Is there a special tuning device that the tv repair people have?

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence Just bought the Philips 9P6034C 60 in. rear - 2c07611.pngad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Problem with the Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60 in. Rear Projection Television, had TV for 16 years. Picture gradually got darker and less clairity

the projection tubes do wear out over time and there is no fix but to replace them. you might first check to make sure the lenses and mirror are clean, do not use compressed air to clean as you may force dust between the lenses. if the picture is darker at the edges or a different hue then the coolant is likely contaminated and needs changed

Philips Magnavox 9p6034c bulb is bad

If you have to replace one, they are very difficult to pull out and replace. You must do a convergence on the color of the tube you replace. You will be replacing a picture tube not a bulb. You may need to replace the fluid in the one tube. Or you may have a convergence problem. You need a TV tech to reveal that the problem is not a bad picture tube....which is rare in your case! Good Luck and thanks for asking!

Philips Projection picture

You have bad convergence amps, tubes are fine unless you had a hazy looking picture before the convergence went out.To fix the haze the fluid in the picture tubes would have to be changed out.
