I have a 10 year old GE washing machine (not sure about the model) it has the fabric softner dispenser on top of the agitator that snaps off, but how do I access the nut to remove the agitator?

Do you see a bolt? if you do you just need a long extention, socket and ratchet, if not the agitator justs pops off. grab it from the outside edge at the base (bottom) on both sides and **** up, the older ones are alittle harder to get off but they will come off just snaps on

You should be able to screw off the top of the agitator and gain access to the nut, however, with the machine being 10 years of age you may need an inflatable doughnut agitator remover. It is like a small inner tube with a split in it so as it can be placed under neath the agitator and inflated and the agitator will pop up and loose.

I have a whirlpool top load washer It does not have a fabric dispenser. When I try to add fabric softner to the rinse cycle , on restart , it throws out all the water , without rinsing. Help!!!

Hello Lennox Tillett,

There's always those DRYER SHEETS... just as smelly.

I'm guessing that is the DESIGN SPEC...
(washing machine's working as designed)...

(NOT TO BE OPENED DURING CYCLE).

ASSUMING YOU HAVE READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL..???

Without your make, model and year... One cannot even begin to SPECULATE the risk & prohibitive cost to UPGRADE (electrically modify) your machine...

My wife prohibited my use of that "STUFF" years ago... Feels & smells better without it...

Regardless...

If you go on line to the MANY parts houses, Amazon or eBay... Kohl's... you will find FABRIC SOFTNER DISPENSERS...

I RECOMMEND the PARTS HOUSES...
some devices fit right on the agitator
(if it is not already there).

Happy hunting!!

I am looking to buy a used Frigidaire GLWS1233AS2 Top Load Washer and GLER331AS2 . They are supposed to be 3 years old. Are they good machines or do they have lots of problems?

Mine is 10 yrs old and I am just now having a problem. Clothes are too damp after last spin cycle. Hopefully, I'll get an answer here soon. Another problem I noticed a few months after I got it, with this model, is the fabric softener dispenser on top of the agitator. You have to remove it every single time and clean it. I added a little water to it before adding fabric softener and thought that would help to stretch the cleaning to maybe once or twice a week. Don't do it! I started to smell mildew and found out why. The agitator shaft that this dispenser sits on was caked with old fabric softener. I just use the blue Downey ball now. The fabric dispenser stinks but I have had 10 yrs of good washing.

How to add fabric softner to the amana washer with locking lid

Check and see if there is a cup in the top of the agitator. Some machines have you put it there, turning back and forth during wash doesn't bother it, but the spin to empty the wash water causes the softener to go out through slots in the top of the cup and be held in the agitator. when it stops the softener drains into the tub, ready for the rinse cycle.

How do you get the agitator to come out the fabric softner dispenser is filthy and all needs to be cleaned

Hello,

By grasping just the fabric softner dispenser and wiggling it from side to side while pulling up the softner dispenser will come out to be cleaned.

How do you remove the agitator on amana washer model lwa30aw

Unplug the Amana washing machine from the wall outlet, and open the lid. Pull the liquid fabric softener dispenser straight off of the top of the agitator. Some Maytag washers require the use of a flat head screwdriver inserted between the dispenser and the top of the agitator. Twist the handle of the screwdriver to pop the dispenser off of the agitator.

Remove the barrier cap inside the agitator using your hands. Pull the barrier cap straight out of the agitator. There is an O-ring that attaches to the outside of the barrier cap. If it did not come out with the cap, pull the O-ring out of the center of the agitator.

Remove the bolt securing the agitator to the drive bell with the socket wrench. The bolt is inside the center of the agitator.

Place your fingers in between the bottom of the agitator and the tub. Lift straight up to remove the agitator from the tub. Keep your head out of the way in case the agitator is stuck and unexpectedly releases. If necessary, use agitator hooks. Insert them under the agitator and push down on the hooks to release the agitator.

Agitator dogs stipped

the way to do this depends on if it is a dual action or triple action agitatior.
dual action
- Remove fabric softner dispenser
-pull off plastic cap with flat blade screwdriver
- bolt is under plastic cap 7/16"
triple action (bounces up and down)
remove fabric softenr and plastic cap
with a 1/2" drive socket extention, put into square hole and unscrew spring assembly. once unscrewed top portion of agitator will come off

I couldn't wait for a rely on my posted question on March 6,2009. I was able to ask around to figure out how to clean this up. This Amana washer model has an agitator that is just clipped on. I just got my fingers underneath the agitator and pulled it off. After getting the agitator off, I was able to clean all of the old built up detergent and fabric softner with some old fashion scrubbing. Then I used some CLR to get what ever I missed. I pushed the agitator back until it clicked back into place and ran one washing cylce to clean things up.....Works great....No more old clumpy stuff showing up in the wash....

Same deal - I have to soak up all the residual water in the softener dispenser between washes. (The detergent and bleach compartments are fine).
