It appears that there is no home theater sound when the house system sound is on. I know the connections work because at times the home theater system works beautifully. The system switches between components for the home system. I reinitialized and reset, but, no change. It doesn't matter whether it is analog or digital, there is still no sound from the home theater. I am using a heavy duty surge protector and battery back up and a fan so I don't think it is overheating. Besides this can happen immediately after the home theater comes on with the receiver. In the past, the home theater can just "pop on" after the system has been setting. The sound is so good, I hate to start over with a new receiver.

- The unit powers up just fine. It doesn't power down when switched between sources, but the sound goes away. I appreciate the thoughts, but I don't think they apply. Thanks
Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.
You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking
noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.
Causes that can start protect mode are:
Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.
Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.
Internal fault.
Internal
fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not
work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In
this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an
experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you
want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the
product documentation.

Hi, I have a Denon AVR-4800 to which I have connected a pair of Sony ES series CD decks. I'm using the optical connections and have the AVR-4800 inputs set to "Optical1" and "Optical2". The CD decks play fine but I can't figure out why there is no output at the analog Tape1 and Tape2/Mon outputs. In order to record from either CD deck I have to connect the RCA cables between the 4800 and the CD decks. I assumed that I would be able to record from a CD using the optical inputs since the optical/digital sigal is converted to anaolg at some point. Does the 4800 not provide an analog output from optical input sources? Or have I missed something in the setup? Thanks, Jeff

Occasionally, it switches rapidly from "HP-on" to "HP-off" but still no sound from speaker outputs. I can get sound from the headphones when they are plugged in. I have owned this receiver since 2001. Any assistance you can provide is appreciated!
