If  you are trying to install Windows XP in latest Notebook, it will not be able to detect the Hard Drive since all the latest Notebooks are shipped with SATA Hard Drives and by default and Windows XP will not be able to detect SATA Hard Drives by default.
If you are having a Intel based Notebook, you need to download the SATA Drivers from the link below :
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36001-36500/sp36132.exe

Find the instructions to create a bootable XP Disk using the SATA Drivers from the link below :
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/resolving-setup-did-not-find-any-hard-disk-drives-during-windows-xp-installation/

Hope this helps...

Do a high level format first. Download AUTOCLAVE burn it to disk run it this will put the hard drive in a preformatted state then reinstall XP. To avoid the blue screen of death I use Linux (PINGUY 11.04)

My 13 year old son laptop need be reset like new

There are a couple possible solutions to your problem. If the computer will still turn on and load windows, and I assume you are using Windows XP, you can try doing a system restore. To do this, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and select System Restore. If system restore is enabled, you should be able to choose a date in the past when the laptop was working properly and restore the computer to that date. If you want to completely reload windows, you will need a Windows XP installation disc. Load the disc in the CD or DVD player and reboot the computer. You should see a screen asking you to press any key to boot from CD, go ahead and press Enter. You will now enter setup where you can reformat the hard drive and reload windows XP. Follow the on-screen instructions to delete any old partitions, and then create a new partition and format it using NTFS. The windows XP installation will continue after the hard drive is formatted. If, when you reboot the computer with the installation disc in the drive, you are not prompted to boot from CD, you may need to reboot and press F2 or F12 to change the boot selection to the CD or DVD drive so it will load the CD first before it tries to load your original Windows installation.

Hi.... i lost my motherboard cd i want to format the laptop what steps i have to take complete my format process

if you run winxp then follow these steps 1)Insert the bootable windows xp setup dvd/cd in the drive 2)The system will boot the dvd by asking you (PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT THE CD...)press enter 3)Then the setup files starts to load on the screen , a blue screen appears , it may take sometime for setup loading process. wait till it gets over 4)after the files get loaded ,it will give you three options press enter there 5)then press f8.then press esc on the next screen if it shows the previous version of windows 6)then you will be able to see your drive there ,the drive which you want to format just press d on the particular drive and it becomes unpartioned space, again press c on the unpartioned space and create the drive again , 7)do this for every drive 8)and for installing the fresh copy of windows choose a particular drive and press enter and then choose the format using ntfs NOT QUICK the third option remember tats it for xp
If it is for vista or 7 insert the dvd of the particular os and then install which doesnt have some complicated things like xp

Hi my everex computer is getting a screen saying windows could not start following file js missing or corrupt:..windiwssystem32configsystem............How do i repair without loosing my downloaded pictures...

Hi, Assuming the OS as XP. Plz follow the below steps.

Yes, you can repair your system,

1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below
This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

3. Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.

do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R".
4. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
5. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, END setup. After the reboot read Warning#2!
6. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration...

you didn't post the make and model of the system, but on most modern systems, this error occurs when the Hard Drive Controller for the system doesn't have a native driver on the Windows install CD. So you need to load the driver during the install. In XP this is done via a Floppy Diskette (XP setup will not recognise a USB Drive) Vista you can install from just about any drive (USB Flash drive generally easiest)

Setup does not detect any hard drives

This error means the operating system on the hard disk couldn't load due to possible faulty hard drive or disk controller. The fault could also mean the hard drive needs reseating to make proper connection. Reseat the hard drive and if you still get this error, then you need to determine if the disk controller is faulty.
To do this, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer see this hard drive as an external drive and you can also see the contents of the drive, then the hard drive is OK and the fault is a faulty disk controller. If the computer cannot detect the hard drive then the hard drive is faulty.
Then get a new hard drive insert it into youe laptop and install Windows to get your laptop operatioal.

Reinstallation of Windows XP

Hi,

The errors that you keep on having is referring to the hard drive where the your windows operating system is stored. you need to make it sure that your hard drive is detected in your system.

To check the hard drive, you will need to restart the computer. When you will see the logo, you will see the option like F2 for setup. You will need to go to the BIOS of the computer to check if the hard drive is detected. If the hard drive is not detected. You may need to reseat it.

Let me know the type of system you have.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.

Hi,

From my point of view I think the Operating system needs to be Repaired and below is a guide on how to repair
  1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
  2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

After the reboot read WARNINNG #2
  6. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact. After the installation is over the system will reboot.

Enjoy
