It's obvious that the power supply failed. The most common parts in a power supply are a thermistor or a voltage rectifier, possibly even a voltage regulator. diodes or resistors can act as fuses too. A ringing sound can come from a fixed coil that isn't kept still with enough epoxy. Hope this helps.

Tv set went off wont come back on, devo, bluray still work all on same power strip

Please provide a brand and model number so I can attempt to help here---if set total dead with no power suspect fuse that power cord goes to inside the set or the power supply inside the set itself.

Tv wont stay on

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.6_11_2012_10_22_27_pm.jpg6_11_2012_10_22_47_pm.jpg

We had a thunder storm and the tv suddenly went off now i have no sound or picture, it was connected to virginmediia cable through v+box, no aerial involved, also the standby light doesnt even light up

Hi,

If there's no LED light at the front panel, this is an indication that the power supply board is not working/dead (I'm assuming here that you had already tried to plug it to other working outlet). First part to check in this kind of symptoms is the internal fuse of the power supply board. It is where the power cord's directly connected. If your unit is not under warranty period (if so, avail it because the manufacturer will fix it for free) open the back cover, check the continuity of the fuse using the multimeter. If you found it open replace it with same current(ampere) ratings and then try to power on the TV. If the new fuse blew again, this is an indication of more serious problem on the power supply board.
Let me know the status of the fuse and the exact brand and model no. of your TV to assist you further.

You won't find a part number for this ic. These boards were made to be replaced as one piece. A new board should do the trick. If you can try to check for a short to ground. Most of the plugs on the board have voltages labeled. If there is a dead short you will see it with an ohm meter.
