My old thermostat has 8 wires and I'm trying to figure out how to install a Honeywell Rth2310b thermostat.

The terminals on the old stat should be basically the same as on the new stat...with a couple exceptions anyway. Note the color of wire on each terminal before removing them and reconnect to the new stat on the same terminals. 8 wires typically indicate a heat pump, so in the configuration menu you'll have to tell it whether to energize the O terminal in cool or not. If you have individual wires on Rc and Rh terminals, you must remove the factory jumper between those two terminals on the new stat. If not, you'll burn out one of the two control transformers or possibly damage your new stat.

In the configuration menu, you'll have to tell it whether its a gas furnace or electric furnace, select the way the fan operates and possibly limit the cycles per hour on both heat and cool modes. There's a lot of subtle entries that need to be done to 'tailor' the new stat to your likings also.

I think it would be best to rely on someone thats a bit familiar with HVAC to change out your stat for you..... as once it is changed, all possible functions of the stat need to be verified as correct in operation.

I am trying to replace my old thermostat with a programmable one, but the wiring diagram on the new one does not incorporate all of the wires that are currently attached. Please help.

The existing connections are O, R, Y, G, C, E, W2. Yes you will need a thermostat designed for the electric heater coils as indicated by the E terminal. The W2 could indicate a second stage cooling compressor.

Need wiring diagram for Honeywell RCT8100

The old thermostat has a second stage heat which is W2. The new one doesn't have second stage heat.
The wiring your describing on the old thermostat is telling me you have a heat pump with second stage heat and the new thermostat is for air conditioning only. You will need to get a thermostat for a heat pump.

Old wiring looks like this yellow =y1 green =G white=w2 orange =O blue=C red=R installing a Honeywell RTH7600 where does the orange wire go we have a heatpump.L

If you have a heat pump, the thermostat that will operate it most generally will have an "O' terminal for the orange wire, this is the circuit that energizes the reversing valve on the heat pump, be sure that the stat says heat pump on the box. hope this helps

Thermostat Wiring: W2? E? Where to connect?

You have a heat pump. You need a thermostat for "Heat pump with Electric back-up heat". Make sure the 'stat has either an "aux" (auxilliary heat) or an "E"(Emergency heat) terminal. The wiring instructions will be provided with the thermostat.

Thermostat

That thermostat must be used with a THM5421C1008 Equipment Interface Module. The thermostat communicates with the module and the module is connected to the HVAC components.
