Kenmore Dryer struggles to start

My 9 year old Kenmore dryer will occasionally start, but not always. In particular, it won't immediately start back after it has been running. I get a humming noise. Several hours later, it seems to be okay again.

The phenomenon reminds me of a car that needs a jump, it is trying to start but can't get going.

Clothes are getting dry whenever the dryer starts, it's just inconvenient, and is a serious problem if finally decides to stop for good.

It sounds like possibly a motor bearing is go out or the start capacitor on the motor is defective. more that likely it is the bearing. When the motor is running it gets the bearing hot and it finally locks up and can not be restarted until it cools. Replace motor or capacitor.

is it gas ? next time open dryer door and send full model number if it heats for a while you have bad gas coils, when you change them out watch out for the coil with three prongs on it,there is a metal piece that sometime gets stuck in old coil when you remove it,if it happens just poke it out of old coil and slide it back on post where new coil will be installed

Dryer making very loud noise.

We had the exact same noise all of a sudden start coming from our 2 year old dryer. We checked everything, rollers, pulleys, motors, etc. I was certain it was coming from the upper left. Finally we found a loose screw had fallen into the front felt ring. Problem solved!
Good luck.
