My 9 year old Kenmore dryer will occasionally start, but not always. In particular, it won't immediately start back after it has been running. I get a humming noise. Several hours later, it seems to be okay again.
The phenomenon reminds me of a car that needs a jump, it is trying to start but can't get going.
Clothes are getting dry whenever the dryer starts, it's just inconvenient, and is a serious problem if finally decides to stop for good.
It sounds like possibly a motor bearing is go out or the start capacitor on the motor is defective. more that likely it is the bearing. When the motor is running it gets the bearing hot and it finally locks up and can not be restarted until it cools. Replace motor or capacitor.
The bad news is you need a motor. the good news is this is not expensive and worth the effort. The motor is the heart of the machine. The blower is hard to get off the old motor. It has reversed threads Righty loosey. Read more
