Question about La Pavoni Lusso PL-16 Espresso Machine

1 Answer

Our La Pavoni Lusso machine has not been used for a couple of months. We put water in to prime the pump, and nothing comes out. We can hear the pump going, and the heater indicator light is working. Any ideas? We dont' want to keep it on for fear of damaging the pump.

Hi there,
Try opening the steam nozzle while trying to pump the water through as this will get rid of any air locks. Otherwise it may be a build up of scale in the boiler or the pump itself. Try that and descale if you can.

La pavoni slow water flow

Try running some white vinegar through it as if you was making coffee (but don't use any coffee) and when done either repeat processes or run a clean pot of water to clean out the vinegar and see if the water is coming out faster. You might need to repeat process a few times. The vinegar breaks down any hard water residue.

Hi there. problem with my La pavoni PL-16. No coffee comes out. The vapour its ok, it comes out but from the place the coffee should comes out, it doesnt. With or without the the filter holder. Whats...

Hi if there is Vapor coming from the grouphead when the lever is down then I would guess there is a problem with the seals around the piston and possibly elsewhere. Here is a link to a goos site that looks at repairing La Pavoni lever machines. Good luck.

Pavoni pressure switch

Do you mean the safety valve to the right of where you put the water in a chrome dome top nut thing?
I you are happy to have a go and have the right sized spanner this is a possibly easy fix or really most likely a clean.
I did this a few months ago and it took a couple of minutes.
I undid it carefully removed all the parts cleaned off the limescale and reassembled it.
If you mean the pressurestat here is a link to a great site that show you what needs to be done and you can judge for yourself if you are up to it.

This site has loads on fixing these lovely machines.

Hi can you tell me how to reset the safety thermostat on a La Pavoni EBR. The instruction manual tells you to do this but does not show you where it is or how to do it! Rob Burd

Hi Rob,

Open the top of the machine. On the heater element you'll see 8 cable connection: 2 on one end, 3 pairs on the other. The safety reset thermostat is on the middle of the 3 pairs (easy to spot the other 2 is flat, the middle one has a 2mm part sticking out). Remove that pair of cables - just in case - and push that button in. You'll hear a clicking noise. Connect the two cables back to the element and follow the "starting up procedure" from your manual. If you did everything correctly the machine will start to operate. Turn it off and put back the top. That should be it.

Espresso comes out of comes out of spout before handle is raised

Hi there, i am Mr La Pavoni and am based in Glasgow, Scotland. I service and repair these machines all day every day and basically it could be a couple of different things. If it is pre 2000 then it could either be the piston gaskets or the piston shaft has come slightly unscrewed from the piston head. If it is post 2000 then it could be any of the above but also in these models there is an additional sleeve inside the group head which may be cracked or the seal on this part may need replacing. It could even just be a tiny bit of debris on one of the piston gaskets. If you have removed the shower plate and gasket and then taken out the piston assembley then you should really replace these gaskets anyway. You can purchase the parts on my website which are all individually priced and every part is available for the lever machines. If you require any further assistance then please do not hesitate to get in touch at

System is not priming

This is normal after you leave the machine unused for a long time. The water dirt or scale or both make many parts to stuck like glue. The presure pump might be stuck if even if you here the noise of the vibration the outlet have been blocked. another part that can be stuck for the same reason is the water solenoid. Both can be fixed by remove them desasemble them and clean them with a wire brush. If you have a litle technician knowladge this is a very simple operation. Of course if you persist you might unsuck by trying the procedure you mention but it seems that now it is hard to be hapen.
Good Luck
