No CD Part on Gateway 2000 and Internet Explorer Missing

Hi Everyone,
I found this old Gateway 2000 laptop at a church fair for $10. I don't want to pay a too much for a laptop, this should do. But it has no CD player, only a floppy drive and internet explorer is not there, I need to download internet explorer on it and go on the net and download windows xp. Can anyone please help in anyway? Thanks.

Missing internet explorer on Laptop

No problem as Firefox is far superior. Download a copy on another computer and copy the exe file to your laptop that has no IE. Run the exe and there you are.

Need 2 add more mem

Hi BBrown,

There is an excellent step-by-step guide here

http://www.computermemoryupgrade.net/installing-laptop-memory.html

However, you NEED to find out what exact model of Gateway laptop you have to make sure that the RAM modules that you buy will work with your laptop since there are physical limitations to make sure you don't install the incorrect types.

For example, there's SDRAM (associated with Pentium III laptops from 10 years ago) and three generations of Dual Data-Rate memory (DDR for short).

DDR3 would be used in current laptops (maybe up to 2 years old), DDR2 (2-6 years old) and of course, Pentium4 era DDR as well,

Hope the helps

I want to reformat and save my program such as all drivers in my back -up? and the internet explorer

Computer management. Go to each important device and back them up. As for Internet Explorer, it's standard on all Windows systems, so you don't have to back it up.

I purchased a new laptop,,and when Itried to connect to the internet wirelessly it recognized my router, but asked for security code. I don,t know what my code is.

if you don't know your security code, then you will need to reset the router (Use the reset button on the back) then you should be able to connect wireless unsecured. from that point you can type the default gateway IP address (192.168.1.1) in the address line of internet explorer, this will open the web interface of the router (Leave username blank, admin for password) then you can re-enable wireless security and pick a new code (I recommend an old 10 digit phone number you can easily remember but hard for others to guess)

IE7 flashes briefly when I click on it and then goes away

Hi,

This usually happens after installation. 1. Click START–>RUN and type cmd
2. At the prompt, type cd and press ENTER
3. Type cd Program Files and press ENTER
4. Type cd Internet Explorer and press ENTER

5. Type regsvr32 IEPROXY.DLL
6. You should get a confirmation that the IEPROXY.DLL has been registered. You can then close all windows and try Internet Explorer again.
If these steps don’t solve the problem, try

Launching IE with add-ons disabled:
1. Click START–>RUN
2. Type iexplore -extoff
You can also create a shortcut so that you can always run Internet Explorer this way.
1. Right-click on the Desktop
2. New–>Shortcut
3. Enter in iexplore -extoff

Hope this helps

Not able to go online

If you have access to another computer you can go to the gateway site, download and burn the programs you need on cd or flash drive. Then install the flashdrive or cd into the laptop. To find out what programs you need to install on the gateway, go to the control panel>administrative tools>computer management>device manager.

DVD DON,T WKK

Sometimes the DVD is not recognized in Explorer as DVD but CD, this will be set right once you put in a DVD-disc.
BUT - there is also an issue when Explorer totally loses the ability to find your CD and DVD. Probably after a virus infection that has been eliminated by your anti-virus program, thus also removing these devices from Explorer. You will find them in Device Manager, but not in Explorer. You can't upgrade drivers, they already have the latest drivers...
If this is the case - go online and search for "CD and DVD-fix", - install it, and your back on the track again!
