Question about Norton SystemWorks 2005 Premier Retail Box (NORTONSYSTEMWORKS2005PREMIER)

3 Answers

Host machine is running XP Home. Host machine is running Internet Conection Sharing. Host machine is therefore DHCP server for LAN. If Norton Internet worm protection is enabled, other PC's on LAN CANNOT get IP address. If Norton Internet worm protection is disabled, other PC's on LAN CAN get IP address. As other PC's on Lan include laptops that log onto other networks - IP address can be anything so to specify a range to exclude would have to be from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255 which is obviously unaceptable. XP obviously uses a program to monitor requests to access DHCP server for assignation of IP address - what is that program so i can add it under Program rules to exclude it so other PC's on LAN can get IP address whils Norton INternet worm protection is running.

SOURCE: I HAVE 20 COMPUTERS CONNECTED THROUGH LAN SYSTEM

Dear Walia,

We need to check weather you are getting any error message while trying to access the Network Computers..
Could you please go through the following steps and check weather you are getting any error message or Dos system getting hanged..

Disable the Norton program from the First 2 systems and try to access the Computers with Ping command...

To use the ping command please open the Command prompt and type ping [ip address of the Second system] ...

If u can access the Computers after disable the Norton program means surely it due to the issue with the Norton firewall...

In that case we need to create the New firewall rule for the Norton program to access the Specific Application

Thanks
Alexander Xavier

Everytime i try to install norton internet security 2011 on my computer running windows xp it says the program that you try to install has detected as malware and it cancelled the installation..

Seems like you have virus or malware on your computer. Download malwarebytes from www.malwarebytes.org and run a scan. Remove anything that malwarebytes suggest. You should also run a scan in safemode. After you have done this you should try to install Norton Internet Security 2011 again.

How do i install norton on a second computer that does not have a disc drive?

Hello,

One thing you can do is to copy the files on the CD to a Flash drive on a computer that does have a drive. Then take the Flash drive to the second computer and click Start>Run and direct it to the Setup file on the flash drive.

Once installed, just register it with the CD Key you have.

Another thing you can do is to try this page:

Download Norton to second computer

I am not sure this will work though if you have 2009. The download here is 2010. I know for Norton 360 you can upgrade to a newer version, but unsure about Internet Security.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have installed virtual pc in windows vista. in virtual pc i ave installed windows xp. in virtual pc my usb ports are not working

Virtual PC for Windows does not support USB devices (other than a mouse and keyboard ... which are not actually emulated via USB, but are simply "used" through the host) ... but just to confirm the "official" statement of this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824511/en-us

Unfortunately, Microsoft did NOT add USB support in Virtual PC 2007 (a widely anticipated addition that simply didn't happen).

VMWare Server DOES support USB devices (through the host) with some exceptions. From the documentation: "... Modems and certain streaming data devices, such as speakers and Web cams, do not work properly." You may want to read the details of using USB devices with a VMWare virtual machine starting on page 232 here: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/server_vm_manual.pdf

You can download Virtual Server for free here (You'll need to register and request a free key ... a painless process): http://www.vmware.com/download/server/
