The os CD will not repair the OS

I go thru all the steps in the manual that came with the computer.
I get to the starting line and hit "R". Nothing happens! Waited two hours.

you dont do anything wrong at all, sometimes the OS cant be repaired. Those times there is only one thing to do and that is to reinstall the OS.

Computer won't start up, just says missing operating system

Unfortunately, you may have damaged the hard drive when you turned it off during the update. The best case would be that the boot sector information has been corrupted. To try to recover the boot information, you will need a Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS install disc (or an upgrade disc) or a third-party partition/system recovery CD. If you upgraded the OS, you'll need that install/upgrade disc. (If you don't have the Windows OS disc, you may be able to get one from a Windows Users Group member. They often have spare copies.)

Put the disc in the optical drive and boot to the optical disc. Assuming your computer has the DVD drive in the boot list, it should boot to the CD. You will need to choose the Repair option and then the command prompt (Advanced Repair). Type in the command "bootrec.exe /ScanOS" (without the quotes followed by hitting enter). If your hard drive is correctly detected, you should see a Windows OS detected. Then use "bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd".
You may need to execute the additional commands "bootrec.exe /FixMbr" and "bootrec.exe /FixBoot" to fix the database record.

If no Windows OS is detected, try changing drives (to C: or D:, etc.) and locate the drive with the Windows directory. If you can't change drives, the hard drive is not readable. You will need to replace the drive and then reinstall the OS from the install disc. Alternatively, you can try restoring the information to the new drive from your backups. However, you will loose any data not backed up in either case.

I hope this helps.

Compaq cpq 5410us ran a factory restore from disk that came with computor when done it says remove disk and turn off computor tun back on and get nothing any ideas ?

What you will need to do is reboot the computer with the cd out of the drive. When the computer starts up you will need to hit f5 or f7 to get into the system bios. You will see a list of boo table devices choose cd-rom. put the cd in, power down computer. Turn it on and it should boot from cd and allow you to do the factory restore.

Windows 7 laptop won't boot to OS , only has a black screen with a blinking cursor

Insert your system recovery disc to repair your startup.

1. Change your Bios to boot from disc:
When your computer powers on, hit F2 (on some computers, F8 on others). Use your arrow keys and move to the right to your BOOT option. Hit the down arrow until you select your CD/DVD drive. Look at the bottom of your screen, and it should say to change the option hit F7 or F8. Use the specified keys, and move your CD/DVD drive above your hard-drive. Save your settings.

2. Boot from your disc. Insert your system recovery disc and restart your computer. Let the recovery disc load. If the option comes up to hit any button to boot from CD/DVD, then hit any button. Once it loads, it should come to a spot where it wants your language. Select your language, then select the option "Startup Repair". Click on it, and let it repair the startup. If it automatically starts correcting your startup then great! If not, then select your operating system from the list and click the Repair Startup option. Restart your computer, and hopefully it will boot from your hard-drive correctly.

Hope this works.

P.S. If it continues to boot from your recovery disc, then using the same method in step 1, go to your bios, and move your CD/DVD drive below your hard-drive.

If your computer is still within warranty, you have an option to request for a recovery cd from Asus which you can use to reinstall your OS. The only thing is, if you use the cd it will wipe out everything on your computer as it will do a clean installation of your OS. Just make sure you have a back up of your files before you use the recovery cd

Acer 1716 seems to start but will not pick up signal from OS

There probably is an error in the hard drive, since its not booting up. I would replace the hard drive, or take it to your local computer repair shop. I hope this helps!

Acer 3000 wont start

if u hav the windows cd along with u,,then try repairing the OS or else u can format it and install the os again fresh.but in later case all the data will get deleted..put the windows os cd in ur computer and restart the computer and keep tapping F12,the boot sequence will come up,,select cd rom and hit enter and keep pressing the space bar{it will say press any key to boot from cd},after u see that u will see the windows setup screen and then u will c a screen where u will get a option to either repair or format the hdd and setup windows again,,if u repair the data will remain,,,but if u format and there is only 1 drive in ur computer{like c drive only}then u will lose all data,,but if u hav multiple drives like {c,d,e ,,then format only c drive,,}all data in other drives will remain,,but data in my pictures,my music will get erased,,
my suggestion,,try repairing the OS first,,

giv a good rating,,and best of luck,,keep me posted

Hi Sunbreeze,

there are two ways doing that.

1. Boot on your OS disk and chose overwrite
2. Start/run/ - type cmd, in the black boks, type format c:
and when the system say "cant do - do you want to do it when you reboot" (or in that area) - you choose yes.
then reboot.

But, remember, there is no way back, so dont forget to copy all documets, photos an private stuff.

If this was helpful, then dont forget to vote "FixYa" :-)

My desktop pc

ok first contact the manufacturer and ask them to send you an installation CD (OS CD).

then run those two commands:

click start
click run
type cmd and hit ok
type chkdsk and reboot (no need for OS CD but it will take time until the computer boot up)
do the same steps and type this time
sfc /scannow (that needs the OS CD).
