Question about Dell Dimension 5150 (DIM515MIN) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Noisy fan Hi there - I have a Dell Dimension 5150 desktop and in the last couple of months the fan has made more noise and not only that - when I look in TASK MANAGER - my processor is sometimes on 100% (along with the noisy fan). Are they connected? Sometimes - it's something called svchost.exe - which is hogging the processor. Are they connected? or is it two different problems? Apart from this (it's not constant noise - just every so often) - the pc works fine. Thanks - June

The 100% noisiest fan is the hardware things and the svchost is the software problem...first thing you can check the svchost to remove the malwarebytes or trojan remover..second things you can fix the noisiest fan by cleaning the fan or replacing the fan.

I found this very useful, I took the fan apart and cleaned it. I was surprised how much dust there was, and now it makes no noise at all, it was awful before.

Still getting 100% usage, so going to do a spyware remover and mcafee scan (I assume this is what you were talking about).

I only have 2gb RAM, noticed I can up that to 4gb RAM, will that stop the 100% thing?

Dell dimension 5150 the fan is really noisy and sounds like its going full blast all the time.we can hardly hear the telly over it.

Your fan is most likely in need of a cleaning, or straight out replacement. You can remove the retaining screws and pull the fan out as a complete unit and blow it out with a can of compressed air. If the noise is a high squealing sound, then I would purchase a replacement fan and install it. Fans can be purchased from Ebay, just remember to check and make sure that you are ordering the correct fan (case or heatsink) before you commit to buy.

My DELL Dimension 5150 fan is making a great noise, how can I fix it?

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the side-panel.
Buy a can of compressed-air, and give your computer a "blow-job" to remove dust from "everywhere", including the fan(s).

If you still get noise, then it's time to replace the fan.
Take the computer to any computer-store, so that they can sell you a new fan that matches the current fan.

Dell Dimension 5150 will not start!

This is related to Hardware.

There might be a lose Ram of data cable connection on Motherboard.

This type of issue is also seen when the there is dust accumulation on Process Fan and CPU fan resulting in over heating.

This might also be due to malfunction of a motherboard.

The third reason could be that SMPS his not working.

Noise from unknown source

Grrrrrrr - Could be CD running, Could be Fan on the CPU, which if not fixed will kill you main chip, could be power supply fan, check in the back and see if fan is turning consistanly ( I think that is how you spell that) If you know how to remove covers, take side off and look at fan on the CPU or other fans and when you hear the Grrrrrrr se if you can tell where it is comong fro, also some hard drives will make a sound as they get older.. Good luck....

Power supply in Dell 5150 making grinding noise sometimes

Probably the power supply fan - try blowing the power supply out first with air (carefully)

I have a dell dimension 5150 desktop problem; turn off after 60 minutes working.

Hi, maybe he was over heating, open your tower and look the fan of your CPU and POWER SUPPLY. Did they work? If yes, did the dirt on the heatsink of the cpu hide the heatsink? If yes clean it and make a test!
